I love I love I love Freecycle but I am getting annoyed by some of the postings. Some people basically ask for an essay as for why you deserve to get this free item. Sure there are some things that should go to someone who really needs it but generally it should just to anyone. And I don’t like it when people send me sob stories about why they should have my stuff! I generally go for the first person to e-mail me a response, or sometimes who can pick it up the quickest, or someone who has given me stuff. Oh yeah, some people will only give it to you if you have given them something! C’mon! And then this week, three people have stood me up! Pick up your item already… and then when you REALLY want to get rid of something, no one wants it! Okay, I truly LOVE freecycle and I have gotten rid of so much stuff with this move through it. I also got a new tape dispenser! Woohoo! The Freecycle in our new town doesn’t look as good, but we can work at that.

Too often I bitch and whine, and probably too often I provide negative feedback out of vengeance and spite. If it’s really bad I just tell friends and coworkers to stay away. I’ve made a commitment to write as many letters (or ask to see the manager) providing positive feedback as I do negative. And sometimes I can do both! Usually it’s unsolicited, and rarely do I get a response. At work we have a feedback form, and in the year that we’ve been giving them out to dozens of patients a month, we average ~ 2 responses, and they are always (well, 98%) excellent, excellent, excellent throughout. This makes us feel good, but doesn’t help to make many improvements. I wonder if others feel the same way. I’d imagine if all you get is negative, you’d probably fail to see the value in that either. So balance it is. When did you last have a positive or negative experience and communicate it to the powers that be? continue reading »

So, I was pricing out a text book today at Chapters.ca. I knew that if you ordered online with your Chapters card, you only got 5% off versus buying it in the store with 10% off. So I went to the store and was checking it out on their computer… and if I order it online within the store, I get 10% off… and still get it shipped for free to my house. Silly.

I really hate car repairs. It is just the whole going to appointments and setting things up and dropping cars off, having to be available if there is a problem. Argh. So I am taking both cars in this week so at least I won’t have to do this again for another few months.

Life involves so much paper. I look so disogranized as there are piles of paper everywhere in my house… but there is SOOO much! Receipts, newspapers, bills, mortgage stuff, car stuff, insurance, and it seems that all the paper is important. I trash non-important stuff right away but then I’m not sure where to file something so I leave it in its important pile. My mission this summer is to organize all this paper! Any tips?

I might have posted about this before but it still bothers me. I really hate only seeing pictures of people’s kids… especially if they belong to friends who I haven’t seen in quite a long time. Chances are, I’ve never even met their kids. Anyway, I would much rather see a whole family picture as I want to know what my friends look like!! Some websites are solely dedicated ONLY to their children and you have no idea what is happening in your friends’ lives or what they look like… you only know that their kid can drool and say ‘baba”. I love hearing about people’s kids but I would also like to know what my friends are up to. Don’t worry Luke and Anne, you do a great job keeping it well rounded!
