Weird

June 27th, 2008 -- Posted in School | 2 Comments »

It has been a weird end to school. I think the fact that there hasn’t been a heat wave leading up the end, has made the end come so fast!! I still can’t believe that after today, I will be on summer holidays!! Where did the time go? I go into today for the end of year PD and clean up but then I’m free!! I have about 10 lists floating around (that mostly say the same things) of things I want to do over the summer and people I want to see. I feel a little behind in school work (having stuff ready for September). My classroom is getting cleaned and painted so not sure when I’ll be able to get back into the school to get stuff ready but I’ll take the break while I can. I would like to have some organizing done before we go to Newfoundland, but we’ll see what happens!

I truly believe that teachers don’t need end of year gifts, but it has been interesting reading the articles and listening to the radio on the topic. The things they say never to get teachers are some of the things I love! There is one parent who always gives us all in my room, a jar of homemade strawberry jam!! We all look forward to it and we opening at the start of the holiday. The radio was going on about how homemade food isn’t good… Hmm.. Stuff for the classroom is always great too!

Anyway, happy summer!!!!

Short Week Long Week

November 18th, 2007 -- Posted in School | Comments Off

Last week was a VERY long week at work. BUT… we also had the dogs over and it seems like our week with Molly and McGiver was over in a flash!! The dogs went home this afternoon… *sniff*. They are just down the street so we can visit them any time. Hopefully this is a fast week at work this week… not looking forward to it though. BUT… my report cards are well on their way.

My Week

October 1st, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | 1 Comment »

Hard to believe that the first month of school has already come and gone! I still feel like it should be the first week! I had my first open house this week… which happened to be the day that we had no power at home - and because we are on septic, etc here, we had no water!!! So my first open house and I didn’t shower… nice.

I also thought that Brock was a bit dramatic about his death colds. Well, I got my first Acton Death Cold and it has been over a week of misery! I took one day off of work and slept most of the day. I take meds but I still have a runny nose… and I’m still exhausted. Everyone at school is getting it as well. Hopefully this isn’t a regular thing!

Less than three weeks until we move! wOOHOOOO! We are going for a walk through this weekend we hope. It is locked all the time now so we can’t sneak in. It looks like a real house now as the brick and siding is all up.

Week One

September 13th, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | Comments Off

It has always been a question of am I going to work or school? Anyway, I survived my first week of school. I have a good class and a great group of EA’s. It looks like it will be an interesting year for sure. I haven’t been able to make a schedule yet as I have to wait and see when my kids go out on rotary - which is quite the challenge at the moment.

We’re counting down the days until we’ll be in our new place. We can’t wait to leave things a little messy and just relax when we get home! Phew! (38 days…)

Viewed Twice!!

June 23rd, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | No Comments »

There is this central teacher application centre that I submitted my resume to back in February. You pay $10.00 for every board you are applying to (I am applying to six). Anyway, there is this little counter that says how many times your resume has been viewed. Since February, the counter has said…. ONE! And that appeared the day the agency posted all of my documents so I think it was just them. Well, today when I logged in (I have stopped really looking at the number and just head for the postings..) I see the number… THREE!! How exciting! Two people have looked at my resume in 24 hours! There is hope yet!!

I assume postings will slow down next week as schools close for summer but it usually perks up again in August. Maybe I’ll reach FOUR by next week!! Imagine!

Just for information, some boards search the data base and don’t actually post jobs while other boards post jobs that you can specifically apply to.

B.Ed.

I now have two degrees! Woohoo! It was VERY hot in there today - and then the gown on top of that! Hot! And I’m delighted to say that my diploma is in English! It is still left side aligned but I can deal with that as long as I can read it.

Speaking of hot - there was a huge fire by my house tonight in the marsh. I had left my house and saw a fire truck coming toward my neighbourhood but didn’t think anything of it. When I was a few blocks north of here I saw the huge cloud of smoke and then the flames! There was another huge marsh fire, two actually, on the weekend closer to the 401. It’s just so dry. The one by my house didn’t last long which is good news.

On Hold!

June 1st, 2005 -- Posted in School, Books | 3 Comments »

I put the new Harry Potter book on hold at the library…. I’m number 115 on the list. Hopefully it comes in before I move…..? Good luck.

So tomorrow is graduation. I made the realization tonight that I won’t get a pretty Queen’s diploma in English like Doug… I get one in latin! Ick! And… it’s all left alignment - not even centred! Oh well, I guess that is what five grand gets you these days. If I did four years at Queen’s like Doug then I might get it in English. A couple of years ago a student discovered that they had printed the date wrong… it took a few months before anyone realized and then they had to reprint them all.

I/We Passed!

May 25th, 2005 -- Posted in School, Commentary | 3 Comments »

I saw my transcripts today and I passed!! I got honors in every course that had an honors option! Woohoo!! Not that that is a hard task but still an accomplishment none the less. Convocation is next week!

And our house passed the home inspection today which means most likely our home will officially be sold as of this Friday at 5pm - as long as everything else goes through ie. their financing.

So everything is moving along…

I’m a Teacher!

April 29th, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | 4 Comments »

I couldn’t have asked for better profs on my last day of school! I had my Math class first thing (which has the best teacher ever!!!)! To finish off the class we made a teacher survival kit with the bandaid, marble, elastic band (to be flexible), etc. and it was just nice. We had a good bye assembly at lunch (singing the Oil Thigh). After lunch I had to present my portfolio! (which went fine by the way). The prof for this class only teaches this class and supervises us on our practicums. He had a dinner at his house last night, and then today in class brought more snacks (he brings home made goods every class). He also brought champagne to celebrate us finishing! What a great guy! Well, I’m a teacher now! Woohooo!

Yearbooks

April 26th, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | 1 Comment »

I signed a yearbook today…. I haven’t signed on in about 12 years! How scary is that? Eeks! There is one photo in the book of me… not too bad. It involves me with food… how appropriate. Another teacher candidate had submitted a not so flattering Halloween photo of me without my permission so was happy to see it wasn’t in there. It seems that what people write after 14 weeks together is a lot different than what people wrote in high school….

Jobs Jobs Jobs

April 22nd, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | No Comments »

I was just realizing how many of my blogging readers are on a job hunt right now… and most of us have been at the same jobs for quite a while and now we are looking for something new. Weird. Brock, Luke, Suzie… Kate is changing her position…. It’s just funny that we’re all doing it at the same time after we were all in the same jobs for a while. Must be the phase of the moon or something.

No news on my job hunt. I don’t think I blogged that I didn’t get an interview for my number one board. But I did learn today about some of the hires out of people who were interviewed and I was happy with that. You know sometimes you hear of people who get hired over you and it makes you mad… well, the ONE person that did get hired I like. On another note, the thing with that board that being “hired” doesn’t really mean anything. You could be on the “to be hired” list and only end up supplying which is exactly where I will be and then we’ll be competing for the same mat. leave jobs etc. and I didn’t have the stress of the inital hiring during my placement! Hee hee… I’m still holding out for the Catholic Board even though I’m not Catholic so I’ll wait and see. Most of the other boards don’t start interviews until May and June after they know all of the internal transfers.

High School Reunions

April 16th, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | 3 Comments »

High school doesn’t rank very high on my list of “great times in life” but once in a while its nice to bump into a few people that I went to school with. The funny thing is, I NEVER see anyone from high school when I go back to Brampton BUT here, I seem to have run into quite a people from high school…. today was another one of those times. I was at a meeting and this person said I looked familiar…. then wondered if I was from Brampton etc…. she was a year behind me in high school. So weird. Also, my first massage therapist here was from my high school as well. Strange. I can think of at least five people I have run into here… yet none in Brampton. Actually, the last time I was in Brampton I did….but it’s taken 7 years for that to happen.

Attention Guitar Players

April 12th, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | 2 Comments »

I went to the music store today and tried out a 3/4 size guitar… and I think I like it. Just wanted to know if anyone else out there had any experience with a 3/4. I thought it was more expensive but it’s only $10 more… (for the one I’m looking at). The lady (who was rather umm…. scary…) said it sounds the same, etc. as a regular one. I find it hard to reach around a full one but have managed okay…. I think a small girl like me needs a smaller guitar. I am still a beginner so I guess I could always move into a bigger one if I felt it was necessary later one.

Anyway, any advice would be great! I am taking my guitar to school on Thursday (we are learning about famous Canadians and we’ll be talking about Raffi… so of course we have to play some Raffi!!) and on Friday for music. So concert 2 and 3, here I come!!

My First Concert

April 7th, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | 3 Comments »

I gave my first public guitar concert today… and it was a smashing success! No standing ovation but it did end with applause! Does it matter that it was to a class of grade 1’s? I also made them play their home made instruments while I played so they couldn’t hear me! It was fun and easier than I thought! phew! Now I can take my show on the road!

Pigeon Holed

March 31st, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | 4 Comments »

I have been doing some asking around in terms of extra courses to take… and perhaps taking my Deaf qualifcations right now isn’t the best. If I want to teach in a primary class, specializing early on won’t help me out. Sometimes they make it hard for a specialized person to leave that job…. so I am reconsidering and am thinking of taking something more primary oriented… Hmm… I think I have decided on taking two courses though. For sure I will take Special Ed one (although it sounds specialized, lots of people take it… ).

Compound Word Query

March 31st, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | 2 Comments »

I have a query for you. At work it has come up that perhaps a compound word is more than just two words that make up one word. Someone has started to wonder if a compound word that is two words put together to make one word related to BOTH words. For example, ice-cream is made of ice and cream. Earring is a ring in your ear. Weekend is weeks end. So… what about nightmare. Did it originate from someones encounter with horses at night?? Does the official defintion of compound word mean that two words are related in some way?? Anyone know?

No Teacher Testing!!!

March 29th, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | No Comments »

but… that isn’t necessarily a good thing. I just heard that when I graduate I will get a temporary licence until they figure out what sort of qualifying thing I need to do to become a teacher! So… who knows when that will take place, or what it will be!! Yikes!

Decisions

March 28th, 2005 -- Posted in School, General | 6 Comments »

I am going to take at least one Additional Qualification course this summer (they bump you up on the pay grid…and hopefully improve your chances of jobs). I am thinking of taking Special 1 and another course. The problem is, they are $800 each! But I found out that Western offers them distance ed. over three months (May-June) and if there was ever a time for me to do these courses, now would be the time! I will done school… don’t have employment yet… Hmm… should I take just one… or two?? Help!

Summary

March 12th, 2005 -- Posted in School, Shopping, General | No Comments »

Not much to report but since I am leaving for a week I thought I should write something. I finished up my third placement yesterday and start my final one after March Break! Eeeks! I only have six weeks of education left and then I am supposed to be a responsible adult or something! Yikes!

There is a beautiful ice fog out right now. I have never really heard of this until this winter but it has happened a few times… it is so beautiful and it just leaves a mist or frost on everything!

I am off to the World’s Largest Christmas store for some shopping and mental relaxation! Hope everyone has a great week!
