CN trucks

March 28th, 2005 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Those CN trucks that have the railroad wheel attachments are so cool. I think it would be neat to be able to drive home from work on the train tracks. Can you imagine our little blue Ford Focus hatchback zooming along the train tracks at 120 km/h? I had this other idea that I want an ATV that could convert into a snowmobile in the same way. I like the idea of an ATV with a snowplow attachment, or a tractor with a snowblower. What other multipurpose vehicles can we think of?

Fun in the City!

February 18th, 2005 -- Posted in Misc, General | 1 Comment »

Kingston is hosting it’s first ever FebFest! They have made an ice rink downtown and tomorrow there will be some 3 on 3 hockey games with some of our local NHL people…. Doug Gilmour, Kirk Muller, Don Cherry… Yeah! There is also free skate on the ice later in the day! It should be fun! I guess it’s the closest thing to a hockey season Doug will see …. and hey, if we’re downtown, we can go shopping too! Ron McLean is coming too! Woohoo! Llyod Eisler skated last night but hopefully he’ll make another appearance this weekend!

Good Deed?

February 4th, 2005 -- Posted in Misc, General | 2 Comments »

I was sitting in Starbuck’s (at Chapter’s) sipping my caramel Frappacino and doing homework when I looked up and saw an opportunity for my annual good deed. It is also early in the year so figured that it was a great time to get the deed over and done with so I can stop trying to squeeze it in at the end of the year. Well, I ran over to offer my assistance (which was greeted with glee!) and proceded to help! When my assistance was no longer required I returned back to the other side of the store, to my seat in Starbuck’s. I thoroughly enjoyed my drink being a nice warm day and all. When I went to leave, I noticed that the person I had assisted with my good deed… was in an ambulance. Does this null my good deed?

LiveStrong bracelets could be the cause of your death

Hospitals covering over LiveStrong bracelets, fearing a deadly mix-up

A hospital chain is taping over patients’ LiveStrong wristbands because they are yellow — the same color as the “do not resuscitate” bands it puts on patients who do not want to be saved if their heart stops.

I gotta cold

December 6th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Chief Blogging Officer

The common cold. It sounds so simple. Somebody tells you she has a cold. “Oh,” you say, “bummer,” and go on with whatever you were talking about. For the other person, though, the party of the second part, the one with the cold, the cold is everything. It fills her emotional, intellectual and proprioceptive universes — these fields still awaiting unification by some metaphysical Einstein — until nothing else exists. The “common cold” is to the human condition what nihilism is to the history of European philosophy. That is to say, colds suck.

Sunday Report

September 5th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

So today I hung out with my cousin from Alberta, Lonna and her son Nolan. I haven’t seen Lonna since I was about 5 or so, so it was quite interesting. They were in Ontario for a wedding so I drove to meet her and Mom for breakfast. It’s kind of weird to see family that you haven’t really met before. We have e-mailed a little bit over the past couple of years but not too much. I didn’t recognize her in person even though I had seen recent pictures of her. Anyway, it was nice to talk about the past and our happy memories of our grandparents.

Long Weekends

July 30th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Another long weekend is upon us. It looks like we might spend a day going to Ottawa and doing a little shopping at MEC for our camping trip. Of course, we will also have to stop in IKEA!! Maybe we can even go to Jack Astor’s! Yummm!

Travels

July 23rd, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | 4 Comments »

So, I have been away this week visiting various friends from camp. I saw Trish, Judy, Ciska, and Krista… all of whom are doing well. I also had a week of LOTS of food. I even managed to get a few Krispy Kremes. So I guess I will be spending the next week eating salad and going to the gym.

Gift Registries

July 7th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | 2 Comments »

Everyone seems to be having babies lately and while I was searching the registries, I noticed that you can have an any occassion registry… not just babies and weddings. Perhaps I will do that for Christmas this year. Hmm…. something to work on.

Magnetic Field

June 27th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Doug thinks I have some new magnetic field around me as electronic things are going haywire around here. I just go to my computer and it’s not working, and my Palm is a little wonky as well. And now my speakers are buzzing… weird. Luckily Doug was able to fix my computer… it got quite sick. I think he worked hard on it as I was using his all the time now so it became a higher priority so he could get me off his!

Fall?

June 25th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | 1 Comment »

I am not complaining about the weather at all, but it is a lot cooler this year than usual. I don’t think we will be hitting the Picton beach anytime soon. It makes for great paddling weather and you don’t need to turn on the air! It is nice to sleep with the windows open and get a nice breeze. I love it when it is cooler up until the end of the school year because you hardly notice that school is ending!

Two Days!

June 23rd, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | 2 Comments »

I will only mention this once as I really don’t like to rub it in. I only have two days left of work!! WOOHOO!! Also, summer holidays are an extra week long this year. Don’t worry I have to make it up next year as school goes right until the end of June and March Break and Easter fall right on top of each other. So for those of you who are mad at me… remember, I only work 30 hours a week and only get paid for 10 months of work so your pay cheque is bigger!! This is also my first summer off in four years as I have been doing courses every summer. So I am exhausted and ready for some time off to clean up this pig sty! Anyway, I’m looking forward to the break.

Don’t Have Much

June 21st, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Don’t have much to blog about but thought I should write something. We had a nice quiet weekend reading and canoeing. It was one of those relaxing weekends that you never really allow yourself.

Friday after work, we went to negotiate our mortgage. We had our list of what we wanted and he offered it to us without us even having to ask. Man, we’re good.

Elections

June 11th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

I have two little stories about local electoral candidates. We have a “No Soliciting” sign on our mailbox which is generally respected. In our last mayoral election and in this election, we have had candidates ring our doorbell, acknowledge that they read the sign and assumed that we would want to hear from them. They thought wrong.

Today I was downtown during my lunch hour and someone tried to talk to me. I just said “I’m not interested” and kept walking as I heard them introduce themselves as the independent candidate. As I kept walking he said “Aren’t you going to vote?” I replied “Yep” and he said “Oh”…. I’m not sure why he said “oh”… shocked that I kept walking or what? Oh well. Also, when people are on their lunch hour, they don’t have time to hear someone’s campaign!

Weird

June 9th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

We were out for a walk tonight when we ran into our old neighbours (we have gone through 3 and they were number 2). So they moved in in 2001 and moved out in 2002. Anyway, turns out they moved probably in 2003 back into the area a few blocks away… and are moving again this summer! YIKES! Who dilikes their homes that much to move that often. More like, who likes moving that much!!??? Anyway, at least this time they are moving to a different city instead of just inside the city.

I Need Lessons

June 6th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

We went out for a paddle yesterday for about three hours and had a great time. I especially had a nice time as Doug let me lie back and read while he paddled us back. Anyway, this evening I noticed that I need a lesson in sunscreen application. I did put sunscreen on but totally missed my shoulders…. I also have a burnt stripe on one arm, a little burnt patch on my wrist… the front of my knee cap… and some speckled parts on my leg. I guess it’s been a while and need some help! Luckily I will be all covered for graduation and my spots and stripes won’t matter!

Warbrobe Advice

June 1st, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | 3 Comments »

Convocation is coming up and I am not sure what to wear. Here is a photo of some of the grads from another year. Since the gown doesn’t close, do you think I could get away with a long denim skirt and a white shirt??

Risk

May 24th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Well, it looks like our risk of camping on Friday night paid off since it seems to have been raining the rest of the weekend!

I have something scheduled every night this week! Yikes! I am never this busy… luckily my last appointment of the week will be a massage!

I’m Proud!

I’m proud of my new bruise. Check it out! The pictures don’t its beauty justice! Excuse my morning hair!!

How Many Teachers Does it Take??

May 10th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | 4 Comments »

Grade 6 testing is on this week at our school… one teacher couldn’t figure out one of the math questions to brought it to the staff room. All of the staff worked on it until one teacher called her husband, an engineer, who presented the problem to the rest of his colleagues. It took his office 20 mintues to figure it out!! So, if an entire school staff can’t figure it out, and it takes engineers 20 minutes to figure it out… how are grade 6 students supposed to figure it out? As for me, I didn’t even attempt it!
