Another Christmas has come and gone… and turkey was delicious as usual! We had my brother over for the weekend before Christmas and then headed to my parents for a few days. I think the highlight (which I missed because I was out of the room!), was my brother getting the Zoey 101 DVD that he has been asking for since July when he was here! He did a reenactment for me though… and luckily had the same reaction when he opened the 2nd DVD later on! I’m glad it was a white Christmas and all of the snow leading up helped get some atmosphere going! As always, I will be heading to Bronner’s in March to finish all of my Christmas spirit up for the year! Now for a week of relaxing before heading back to work!

NoseFrida, the explosive Swedish device that lets you suck snot out of your kids’ nostrils

I haven’t been too successful with reading books over the past year. I’ve tried, and finished some, but never really got into them. A few weeks back I tried reading “Jumper: Griffin’s Story” by Steven Gould (soon to be a major motion picture) but it didn’t grab me. On Saturday I went to the library to get some other books, and it was there again so I signed it out. Funny thing but I just now finished it, and it was amazing! Must be the freedom/relief of being unemployed, but I was totally into it. It was fun, an easy read, really exciting, all the components of a well balanced book without the tedium of typical storylines and mediocre character development, and realistically fantastical.

Doug got an early Christmas present this week! He switched jobs and is back working at Guelph General again. He is happy to not have to travel far and get back into a regular routine. His year of consulting was a great learning experience but just wasn’t a perfect fit. As for the weekend he is unemployed as he was finished on Friday and doesn’t start his new job until Monday!

We had a small birthday party Doug at my parents yesterday and enjoyed a yummy mousse cake!! While Doug took his post party nap, my Mom and I put up the Christmas tree! With reports of ‘near-crippling’ coming, we decided not to spend the night at my parents after our evening visit to Black Creek Pioneer Village! Doug and I went to the lamplit festivities and sampled food and made some pioneer crafts. It was so great with lots of snow!!! The drive home was a little slippy but generally okay. This morning we are curled up by the fire ( and the small fire I made in the toaster oven… oops!). I guess sometime we’ll have to venture out and shovel the driveway…

Well, I am pretty much done my course and now I am a specialist in special! I have some finishing touches to add to my paper and respond to a few posts and then it will be done! WOohoo! Just in time to celebrate Doug’s birthday!! It’s hard to believe Christmas is less than two weeks away… that’s why I start celebrating early! It seems to have waves of celebration and then waves of work and business…. or is it busyness.. Hmm.. We had a fun night making stuff for the potluck tomorrow…. hanging out at the Ferguson’s being silly once again… A nice way to relax.

What a whirlwind of a weekend. We took off Saturday morning for 24 hours in Toronto. We headed to the Convention Centre to meet Rohan, Bryan, Amanda and Dave for the motorcycle show. I guess this is the best show of the three the group went to last year. You can get on any bike to see how they feel - Doug was only missing that you couldn’t start them and hear them purr. Pictures to come soon!! Although I don’t ride, I did find myself a nice low comfy Suzuki… We checked into our hotel and then headed to a local pub so Doug could get some unfiltered, unpasturized beer… After afternoon snacks, the gang left for Guelph and Doug and I headed to the Eaton’s centre so I could see the windows and the Christmas tree! We wandered around Nathan Phillip’s Square and checked out the lights before getting ready for Doug’s work party. Thanks to Kristen for my new outfit this year! I think my favourite thing about Doug’s work parties are that you get a dessert sampler plate - four mini desserts… yummy!!! We could see the CN Tower from our hotel room and it does a light show most of the night so I kept the curtains open so I could watch! We popped in on my parents on the way home - rested for a bit and then headed out to a Christmas concert in Kitchener. We’re a little tired - Doug probably more so as he headed out at 5:30 this morning! We’re off to Black Creek Pioneer Village next weekend to find some more Christmas cheer!

I’m such a procrastinator! I have a paper that I need to get done and well… I haven’t done too much on it. But I guess now that report cards are done and Christmas is on its way, it would be nice to have that out of the way as well. So if anyone has any great articles on leadership, send the links so I can get a few more references in!

Is it wrong to just spend the day by the fire doing diddly? The snow looks pretty from inside…

We had planned on going to Stratford on Saturday and hearing that a storm was coming, we quickly got ready for the day to head out to beat the storm (which didn’t arrive until late Saturday night). Anyway, we headed to Tim’s for breakfast - and they were out of breakfast sandwich buns - boooo!! So we each settled for something else. I didn’t get much in Stratford but enjoyed walking through the shops, etc. On our backroad journey home, we ended up at Anna Mae’s! The nice thing about going there off season is the sales!!! We bought 3 pies for $12.50!! Yuummm! I really wanted to change my order to something beyond my usual (broasted chicken, mashed potatoes and coleslaw) but just didn’t have the strength. I did manage to get coconut cream pie for dessert though! Yummm. We had a nice time driving the back roads and enjoying the snow and rolling hills - and are glad we aren’t out in it today! Brrrrr!
