Vacation 2007

April 29th, 2007 -- Posted in General | 5 Comments »

So I’m sort of in charge of planning our summer vacation this year since Doug planned last years (quite well I might add).  I am thinking Florida.  Yes, I realize that it can be a little on the hot side in the summer but I’m still interested.  Can anyone recommend some places to go??  Of course I want to go to Disney but Doug would like to do some beach stuff and other stuff.  Also, if you have recommendations for other places for holidays, I am all ears!

Update

I know updates about our basement aren’t that exciting to the outside world…  but they are to us!  Things have been at a stand still this week as we waited for our permit!  Anyway, we finally got our permit on Friday!!  So things should speed up again this week.  We always race to the basement when we get home to see what’s been done!  On Tuesday, we are getting our gas fireplace!  WOOHOO!!  I think that excites us the most.  We’ll be sitting on our cement floor on Tuesday night watching the fire.  Oh, just a tip - there are tons of energy saving coupons out right now.  You can get them at most stores (Canadian Tire, Home Depot).  There is five dollars off solar power lanterns for outside and three dollars off of the umm… special lightbulbs.  Lots of places sell the lights for $2.95 so you get them for free!  There are few other coupons but I can’t remember what they are… Oh, dimmer switches are $3.00 off as well.

Nice

What a great weekend!!!  I did ZERO work (which is probably good for me…) and spent lots of time outdoors!  We saw the dogs twice this weekend (once at their house once at ours).  I am a little sunburned… eww…  I can’t believe how nice it was this weekend!!  That taste of summer will have to last me for a while as it’s not supposed to be that nice any time soon.

THUS IT IS WRITTEN…THUS IT SHALL BE DONE!

This could be handy

Yeah!

So our basement is almost completely framed!  It’s very exciting!  It’s fun to come home from work and wonder what today’s surprise will be.  There won’t be much more action for a little bit as we have to wait for the permit to go through before we do electrical, etc.

AH!

The papers are signed and we are moving forward.  We are finishing our basement! Yeah!  It is a little nerve wracking picking a contractor and now the job of picking everything is ahead.  We have to pick light fixtures, door handles, switch plate covers, carpeting (that was after a day of looking at ALL flooring options).  Luckily we already picked our fireplace (can’t wait!).  Anyway, I’m a little nervous but am excited that we’ll have a finished floor of living space!

Maple Syrup!

April 1st, 2007 -- Posted in General | Comments Off

Yesterday we decided to venture out to the Elmira Maple Syrup Festival.  It was our first time going and looks like we sort of planned well.  We had intended to go last year but had company instead.  We had driven to St. Jacob’s last year so saw that people parked pretty far from Elmira.  So the festival opens at 7 and we were there for 8:15.  Our first mistake was having breakfast before we went.  We aren’t pancake eaters but didn’t realize there was TONS of other food vendors.  Doug enjoyed an apple fritter soaked in maple syrup!  I had maple peanut brittle, a long john, and maple sugar!  Very yummy!  We bought both Amber and Dark syrup and found a great deal on a wooden bowl.  Doug had been admiring them for months and they are usually $100 or more but they were being sold for $30!  Good deal.  It was VERY crowded and I’m sure it became more crowded as the day went on as the car line coming into town went on for quite a few kilometres when we left at 10:30! There is definitely more than 2 hours of stuff to do there but it was a chilly day… and crowded.  Anyway, we went on to do some geocaching and found one we couldn’t find a few weeks ago.
