By Accident…

… we met Walter Gretzky today!  He was at the local Chapters promoting a children’s hockey book!  How exciting.  We walked ahead to see what the crowd was and what a shock to see someone we recognized!  Very cool!

Parties

February 21st, 2007 -- Posted in General | 6 Comments »

Thank goodness we had a pancake party planned last night!  Right after I got home, there was a ring at the door - the snowplow had knocked out our cable!  They had called the cable company themselves but were told it would be about three days so we might want to call ourselves!  With Doug working from home it’s a bit essential!  So we have no phone, cable or internet at the moment! Yikes!  So thank goodness we had company or I might have had to find a book!

Our party was fantastic and just as great as last year!  We had crepes for dinner filled with ham and cheese and veggies.  And for dessert we had waffles stacked with fruit, frozen yogurt, jam, and DARK maple syrup!  Yummm!  And the company was fantastic as always - it was GOLDen!

Changing of the Tides

So I had peaked in my Valentine bag from school but hadn’t looked in detail until tonight - it looks like Halloween!  There is more candy in my bag than actual Valentine’s!  When did it become a candy holiday?  I have eight Valentine’s… and 10 Hershey kisses, 2 suckers, 7 chewy candy packages (twizzlers, nibs), 2 chocolate hears, one cookie and one package of candy hearts!  Crazy!!

Weird Sighting

As I was driving along today, there was a car in front of me… with a fridge on top of it!  They were moving a fridge, with side by side doors, on top of a car!  I can’t think that would be too safe but I was wondering how they ever got it on top of the car in the first place! Crazy.

Finally!

Doug has been working from home since November…  and has been waiting to get a desk from a friend before setting up his ‘office’.  Well, the desk and bookshelf arrived today and it looks so good!  His umm…  office for the past few months has been a mass of cords and keyboards and computer looking stuff on the floor, and on top of random furniture.  His office looks hot now and I am SO jealous!!  But it looks good and I am sure it will inspire him to do bigger and better things to continue to bring home the bacon… but if you never leave do you bring home the bacon?  Is it delivered?  Not sure…

Thinking

February 9th, 2007 -- Posted in General | 4 Comments »
  • It’s weird that Anna Nicole Smith has died.
  • Now that I am … no longer in my 20’s, I have been thinking more about my long term health.  Not that I have done anything about it but I realizing that these aches and pains are reminding me that I need to take better care of myself… just not sure where to start and need to get that fire under my butt going!  And every magazine I read this month talked about heart health… Hmm…. hint hint.
  • I think I have the winter blahs.  Leaving last minute for work and leaving from work shortly after the bell.  Nothing bad is happening at work I just enjoy curling up at home these days hence why it’s hard to get motived for point number 2.
  • Who has time for oil changes?  Both of our cars are due for maintenance but we still haven’t found a great place in town and it’s hard to find time to go to Brampton… March Break is coming!
  • Less than one month until my birthday!
  • March Break starts in one month today!!!
  • Frankenmuth, here I come!  Please have spring like conditions!!

Just found this great poem…

The Pig by Roald Dahl

In England once there lived a big
And wonderfully clever pig.
To everybody it was plain
That Piggy had a massive brain.
He worked out sums inside his head,
There was no book he hadn’t read.
He knew what made an airplane fly,
He knew how engines worked and why.
He knew all this, but in the end
One question drove him round the bend:
He simply couldn’t puzzle out
What LIFE was really all about.
What was the reason for his birth?
Why was he placed upon this earth?
His giant brain went round and round.
Alas, no answer could be found.
Till suddenly one wondrous night.
All in a flash he saw the light.
He jumped up like a ballet dancer
And yelled, “By gum, I’ve got the answer!”
“They want my bacon slice by slice
“To sell at a tremendous price!
“They want my tender juicy chops
“To put in all the butcher’s shops!
“They want my pork to make a roast
“And that’s the part’ll cost the most!
“They want my sausages in strings!
“They even want my chitterlings!
“The butcher’s shop! The carving knife!
“That is the reason for my life!”
Such thoughts as these are not designed
To give a pig great piece of mind.
Next morning, in comes Farmer Bland,
A pail of pigswill in his hand,
And piggy with a mighty roar,
Bashes the farmer to the floor…
Now comes the rather grizzly bit
So let’s not make too much of it,
Except that you must understand
That Piggy did eat Farmer Bland,
He ate him up from head to toe,
Chewing the pieces nice and slow.
It took an hour to reach the feet,
Because there was so much to eat,
And when he finished, Pig, of course,
Felt absolutely no remorse.
Slowly he scratched his brainy head
And with a little smile he said,
“I had a fairly powerful hunch
“That he might have me for his lunch.
“And so, because I feared the worst,
“I thought I’d better eat him first.”

Fun

Our goal for the last few months is to do something ‘child-like’ each month.  Not to say that what we do is only for children but perhaps more something we usually did as children or have never done before!  Anyway, last night we went skating on the pond down the street - we went after dark so we had the rink to ourselves - it was quite fun!  We miss Rideau Canal A LOT and might have to buckle down and make the drive to Ottawa - we’ll see!  Last month we had a picnic on New Year’s Day in the park at the big geocache event.  And in December we went on a Merry-go-round at the Festival of Lights.  The memories before that are a little dim… I did go apple picking for the first time in the fall though…
