Trade in your too-tight wedding bad for this

Never forget your anniversary. I wonder if you can configure this to remind you to change your underwear, too.

I just wanted to write something so the page has something new. Nothing too exciting going on, but I am excited that the pool in the school is having early morning lane swim!! Yeah! So three mornings a week the pool will be open! WOohoo! It always bothered me that the pool was never open when I could use it. Such a waste to have this giant pool and no one using it.
This year, I am trying to create a balance between work and life… last year it was mainly just work! My goal was to have one day where I left right at the bell (hasn’t happened yet), one night where I work late (the latest has been 9 - but I have colleagues that stay until 11!!!) and the other nights I leave around 5 or 6. BUT … when I have been getting home, I don’t do work like I used to. So that is an improvement. My afternoons might have been finished earlier but I have had tons of meetings, workshops, etc. after school… hopefully that slows down soon.
Off to the pool in the morning!!
Got my first apple from a student this week. It was nice and shiny too!
Since not cruising on my bike, here’s my web-cruising:
Straw Bale Construction
Everdale Organic Farm and Environmental Learning Center
Ottertooth - Wilderness Canoeing
Free topographical maps of all of Ontario. Now, if they can just make it as easy to navigate as Google Maps or Google Earth.
Went to Ten Thousand Villages in Waterloo this afternoon and picked up this great whistle in the shape of a turtle! I’ve been looking for a neat whistle I can use when I’m solo camping… it’s one of those creepy but natural things. It’s more like a flute (various holes to control the pitch) but it goes nice and low for that sexy sound. It’s like singing with the loons.
Then I found this neat shop in Waterloo - Adventure Guide at advguide.com (not to be confused with advrider.com, another great website I frequent). I got my Massasauga map there, so I can book my trip. It’s nice to know of a store that’ll meet my MEC fix when I can’t make it into Toronto.
Today was free-stuff-on-the-curb day, so I got rid of a bunch of crap that’s been hanging around in the basement. The majority was gone in a couple of hours (we spied on the scavengers!) and the rest (a fully operational TV and a crappy old stereo) were gone when we got home. It’s such a neat idea to reuse as an alternative to reducing/recycling or tossing. It’s like a city-wide garage sale with no price tags. Go Guelph!
Two weeks from today, this is what I’ll be doing.
So… I must confess I have another addiction - and it actually causes me problems. It is calendars. More like agendas. Especially now with teacher, I find that I am always looking for the perfect way to record the information… but then I like something for my purse… and then I like a full calendar versus day by day… and then I find something better and transfer all the information. It’s crazy. I also lose track of meetings because it was in the third agenda. I had the perfect one for the year then got one from school… which I haven’t opened yet but it’s cool - but too big. I also have a google calendar… and a pocket pc but my pocket pc can’t tranfer my google calendar. Anyway, you can see what an organizational mess I am in. But if you see a neat agenda… let me know!
Half a life ago:
It’s just weird to think what double my age is like… funny to think about things that seem like yesterday are so far in the past. Anyway…. was just thinking.
Woohoo! Boogie won! Woohooo!!
So I survived the first week of school but since I have most of the same kids it didn’t feel too ‘new’. There has been a bit of an inside ‘theft’ problem (my six pack of pop was taken!!!) which is often the case in schools over the summer. Having had previous knowledge of this, I hid a lot of stuff before school ended and I just can’t seem to find it… or I find yet another hiding spot that I had forgotten about. So I give myself another week to uncover everything that was hidden. I also brought stuff home over the summer so can’t remember if it’s at school or home. Hmm… I’ll need a better system next year. On a positive note, I managed to change my yard duties around to make them more convenient for me. I have one back to back but that means I only have one duty in the afternoons! Yeah.
So we have 2 friends that I like to ride with. They both have scooters, so when I get on my bike, we cruise around like a gang of tough guys… not very intimidating but we have fun. Jenn follows in the car, and we’re always looking for ways we can get her off 4 wheels and onto something more like ours. We’ve found it. It’s incredible, and it’s dutch.
Jenn will be horrified that I’m posting this, but they beep out all the naughty words, and I’m posting this because of the creative marketing methods employed - Philips Bodygroom - shaveverywhere.com. Check out all links and even the inactivity blurbs/vids.
We went to see Pirates of the Carribean today at our local Cineplex Galaxy Cinemas. Talk about sensory overload. When you haven’t been to a movie theatre movie in many months, the experience including the sound, movement, and size can be overwhelming. But it was a good movie to see in a theatre, and it was quite enjoyable, for the most part.
For the last 20 minutes, this green stripe appeared in the film - right down the middle of the screen. Bothersome, annoying, frustrating - yes. So I asked the employees what was up with it, and they looked at each other and said, yeah, they knew about it but there was only a week left and they had tried to get new reels but they wouldn’t be in on time. They offered to show me to the manager, and came back - not with the manager, but with movie coupons.
The employees were quite helpful, and it counterbalances the frustration as we are able to see two movies for the price of one. But, I am not fully satisfied. 20 people were in the theatre, 5 of us complained and got coupons. That means they still collected full price admissions from 15 people for a movie they knew was faulty and are choosing to do nothing about. I suggested that they should provide a warning before you purchase your tickets, or offer a discount to everyone. But instead, they will continue to try to make as much money as they can, disregarding the investment the customers make with the expectation of perfection.
The previews are interspersed with warnings about pirating and illegality of videotaping it. But I have no sympathy for the big guys like Cineplex, and am not surprised, nor do I blame individuals (whether that includes me or not), for downloading movies instead of paying to see them in the theatre.
Boy, if this doesn’t get you in the mood for hockey, you’re not a hockey player — Lace ‘em up: 10 Rules for Pick-Up Hockey Players I sure hope I find a league or a pick-up team here in Guelph to join this year!
The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, was killed over the weekend. Sad.
Google Maps/Earth + Flickr Photos = Geotagging
(yeah, the math isn’t exact, and it’s not exactly all that geotagging is about, but it’s good enough)
Well, it’s that time of year again when school starts again. I have 10 kids again this year… so far. But a few more adults… it will be a busy room! i don’t feel as organized as I would like but with teaching there is always more you could be doing! I have been visiting the Gracious Living outlet and getting lots of plastic bins/drawers cheap to help with organization though!! Too bad that last long weekend of the summer is supposed to be so rainy! Yuck. I think we will head to Niagara for some geocaching! Yeah!
