Yeah!!

July 28th, 2005 -- Posted in General | No Comments »

Doug is coming home tonight!! Woohoo! I think it’s been about three weeks since we’ve seen each other and about a month since he’s been to the house. This will be his last visit here - how sad! My Dad is coming for the big finale - lucky him! My Mom has already been here for her last visit as well. *sigh*, all the lasts are starting - and soon we will be into all of our firsts again. I have only been to our new town a few times and that was all for house shopping or interviews. I haven’t spent time exploring the town as I figure I will have a lot of time to do that. We did go to one great restaurant that had this amazing salad though…. Something to look forward to.

Doug is going to be in for a shock - the bed is taken apart and is on the floor - his dresser is full (not of his stuff) - the closet is empty , our kitchen table is gone, …. there has been some progress since his last visit. I’m still here though!

London

July 28th, 2005 -- Posted in Friends | 3 Comments »

I just heard that a friend of mind was two stations away from the London bombing on July 21st! Yikes! Needless to say, her vacation was quite interesting. I’m glad to hear she is okay. She just finished university and this was her celebration trip! She turned 50 while there. We started our degree together so we have quite a history. Just glad to hear she is fine and had a great holiday otherwise - she deserved it!

Could it be??

After um…. 10 phone calls, one visit, 12 different answers, I might have the keys to my new mailbox by tomorrow!!

Weird Trends

July 26th, 2005 -- Posted in General | 4 Comments »

Remember that weird trend in umm… the early 90’s of wearing ‘winter’ shorts with tights? I had a pair of brown cord shorts that I wore with tights….and a blazer. I was so cool.

Don’t know what made me think of that…

I Love Pity!

July 25th, 2005 -- Posted in Friends | No Comments »

I love having pity taken on me because my chef is no longer here. I was fed twice on the weekend! I must admit that the highlight was eating at Chocolate Ladies house. (She has a chocolate making business). She just bought a chocolate fountain and has been experimenting with it so being the humble guest I was, I had to sample it and play in it. Fun! I would totally rent one. I am invited back later this week… I wonder if the fountain will be running….

Then last night I went to Paula’s and we watched the Aviator. I didn’t know it was about Howard Hughes… and then it all came back to me - I have been on the Spruce Goose! Cool. She just got back from Las Vegas so I got to look at all the great photos they took.

Yeah for wonderful friends! I am going to miss them all for sure.

Holiday!!!

July 20th, 2005 -- Posted in Holidays | 1 Comment »

It looks like we might actually get a holiday in after all. Our original plan was to do something in May but that plan kind of went by the way side. Anyway, we want to go somewhere in the eastern US. I am going to hit an LL Bean store if it’s the only thing I do! Other than that, we are wide open. Any suggestions??

Argh!

July 20th, 2005 -- Posted in General | No Comments »

Mail. Is it the one thing that should be super easy to arrange but no one is giving us a straight answer and it’s driving me crazy. Since we will be homeless for two months I figured we could send mail to our new home - especially since it is a community box and our box is there. One person said I would have to collect it from some main office, someone else said no problem, and now they are saying they can’t give us a key until we close. When we moved here it wasn’t a problem. Argh. So if I have given you our new address - don’t use it!

Misc.

July 20th, 2005 -- Posted in General | 2 Comments »

I’m blind! I read the new Harry Potter book - online.

I have had a muscle twitch for almost a week -it’s driving me crazy!

You can’t change daylight savings time!!! That’s crazy!

I played air hockey yesterday. Turns out my friend has a real table!! It was fun and now my shoulder is sore….

Honesty

July 18th, 2005 -- Posted in General | 1 Comment »

I had my moment of honesty for the year yesterday. I bought something at a store using my VISA. I hardly ever look at the amount when I am signing (but am working at getting into the habit). I think I made a point of looking because she never told me the price…. anyway, she charged me 23 cents instead of 23 dollars. So I told her. It was a small business so I feel good about my decision… Of course I should always be honest….

Almost Perfect Evening

July 15th, 2005 -- Posted in General | Comments Off

I had an almost perfect evening. I went downtown to see the Kingston Busker Festival. The temperature was perfect, there was a slight breeze (which made some of the juggling acts a little more challenging, and it was just all great. I caught about five acts and then walked along the water. The moonlight was perfect over the lake on my drive home.

Oh, I also had some ice cream from White Mountain when I got there - hardly any line so I knew it was my chance. When I was leaving, the line was out the door and halfway across the street (the road was closed). Anyway, if you’re in town this weekend you should definitely check it out. There is a fire show Saturday night at 10 in the Hub. We went the first year they had that part… don’t remember much of it though. Anyway, it’s on all weekend starting at 11 each day. Woohoo.. if it doesn’t rain I’ll go back again tomorrow.

And… the reason it wasn’t perfect was because Doug wasn’t here to share it. *sniff*

EDIT: Went again Saturday night! Woohoo!

Rubber…

I just got back from a 90 minute massage. I’m like rubber… *sigh*

News!

July 14th, 2005 -- Posted in News | 5 Comments »

Well, after 7 months of applications and 150 resumes later, I finally have a job lined up for the fall. And to think it’s just down the street from Brock’s house! How lucky am I?! There is even a pool at the school! Woohoo! The job is a Grade 3-6 Special Ed class. I’m a lot nervous about the whole career transition…. but excited to have a job to go to.

Herbie!

July 12th, 2005 -- Posted in Movies | 2 Comments »

I went to see the new Herbie movie with the family today and I was quite surprised at how great it was. It had some conflict, romance, racing, and good ole’ Herbie was as good as I remember him. We all really enjoyed it.

Weird

July 11th, 2005 -- Posted in General | 1 Comment »

It’s weird to think about people sometimes and how sometimes people are a huge part of your life and then one day, you’ll never see them again. It’s never a formal thought that you’ll never see them again, but it just happens. It’s strange to think about all the people you have run across and have already forgotten. I think I am thinking more about it now because of the move and I know I will see some of them again but others, maybe never. There are always intentions of staying in touch but they don’t always work out - I think of camp people. Anyway, ran into someone today that I haven’t seen in probably 15 years and haven’t thought about in a long time. Interesting.

Just an aside, we have been getting lots of spam with our comments so if you are commenting Doug is screening them whenever he checks his e-mail (which could be days… maybe weeks) so will post them when he clears them.

Who’s That Doug Guy?

July 6th, 2005 -- Posted in News | 3 Comments »

I do live. I may be quiet, but I’m alive. I’m so much more quiet/shy at work here than I had become in Napanee - give it a few months/years and I’m sure I’ll be back to my prior normal.

So I’m gradually discovering this new town of ours. Parks, walking trails, biking trails (gotta love GORBA), conservation areas, the downtown, the shopping districts, the outlying towns, small town shops and restaurants, key iconic joints (bakeries, desserts, pubs, etc.), numerous breweries and wineries, and of course, the greatest hospital.

There are several things that I absolutely adore, and I’m very pleased with our decision, but I’ll still miss the Lake Ontario waterfront (and the various small lakes north of Kingston).

I would have liked to have gone to the Hillside Festival but it’s sold out - maybe next year. The Elora Festival would be good but it’s a little more expensive. Instead, I may try for Summerfolk, or we’ll just go to The Bookshelf. Anyone know of any other good festivals/venues?

But most significantly, I can’t wait to be in my own house again - and this one seems to be significantly better than our last house. Pictures will be coming over the next few weeks to show the development - until then we all must just ache for October 20th.

Behind

July 6th, 2005 -- Posted in General | No Comments »

I feel so behind, so tired and so overwhelmed. I have just over two weeks left in my courses but my plans to get my work done always get trampled on by something else! I had the next few days all set to get work done and then I get a call for an interview! Argh! If they had called a half hour sooner I would have had a ride but now I am taking the train tomorrow. I’m excited to have an interview but the timing really sucks. I think next call I might try for a phone interview…. we’ll see.

Anyway, my Mom and I made a HUGE dent in the packing. I’ll be living off Christmas plates for the next few weeks and drinking out of a variety of left over cups but that’s what makes life interesting. The mover is coming tomorrow for an assessment…. eeks. Not looking forward to seeing that bill! The storage part is cheap it’s just the two moves that will kill us.

I’m hoping things will settle down soon. I was hoping on the job hunt taking a break thinking that principals took holidays or something but the job postings keep coming out! Will they not end. At last count I think I have applied for over 120 jobs! And you really have no idea if they are ‘real’ jobs or are already filled and they just have to post it. On the bright side, my resume has been looked at 6 times in the last 24 hours. Hopefully they get their act together and call me for interviews for Friday… I’ll be in town then!

Words of Wisdom

Always keep several get well cards on the mantle, so if unexpected guests arrive, they will think you’ve been sick and unable to clean.

Le Tour

July 3rd, 2005 -- Posted in General | No Comments »

The Tour de France has started! Woohoo! Unfortunately Doug and I won’t be able watch it together… he’s not even sure if he gets the OLN! Yikes! I have mixed feelings about Lance winning again… It would be great for him to win #7 but what about the other guys who do this year after year… don’t they deserve a turn? But with Lance retiring, they know they have a chance next year… Hm…

Hidden Treasure

July 1st, 2005 -- Posted in General | Comments Off

Doug has lived in Kingston for ten years and me seven. We have always talked about going to Aunt Lucy’s but we never did. I think one person told us it wasn’t great so we never went. WELL… when my parents came for graduation we decided to try it and it is SOOOO yummy! We went two days in a row when they were here. So I had to take Doug upon his return to Kingston and he wasn’t disappointed. I had only been for lunch so going for dinner was nice as well. (You can order off the lunch menu at dinner as well so Dad, if you want that turkey sandwich when you come..). At dinner you get these cute little bisquits! Anyway, if you’re in the area you should go! It’s a treasure we discovered a little too late!
