Yeah! Fanfayr is this weekend! Can’t wait! It’s my Kingston tradition - school is out and then it’s Fanfayr. It is this huge artisan festival down by the water at Confederation Basin. We bought a great coffee table our first year there. The Elora Soap Shop from Paisley is always there as well - and he STILL gives us free stuff. We talked to him one summer about our trips to camp and he gave us some samples… Hmm… something to think about for this weekend.
There is this neat wood craft stuff where it is all put together without nails. I think we’ll have to get one piece this year as we always look and never buy…
Still can’t believe it’s the last day of June…

I haven’t started calling different movers for quotes but none of them can tell me anything until they look at all the junk we have in our house. Anyway, made small talk with one mover and didn’t give any of our new contact information except I told him where Doug was working. Anyway, the guy showed up at Doug’s work, at his department and wanted to speak with him. Luckily a co-worker cornered him off and kept Doug safe! The guy dropped off a package. I mean, I had already made arrangements for someone to come next week to the house anyway! Doug and I have always had this work and business stuff our separate. We never give out our work phone numbers, etc. - so we weren’t impressed.

There is this central teacher application centre that I submitted my resume to back in February. You pay $10.00 for every board you are applying to (I am applying to six). Anyway, there is this little counter that says how many times your resume has been viewed. Since February, the counter has said…. ONE! And that appeared the day the agency posted all of my documents so I think it was just them. Well, today when I logged in (I have stopped really looking at the number and just head for the postings..) I see the number… THREE!! How exciting! Two people have looked at my resume in 24 hours! There is hope yet!!
I assume postings will slow down next week as schools close for summer but it usually perks up again in August. Maybe I’ll reach FOUR by next week!! Imagine!
Just for information, some boards search the data base and don’t actually post jobs while other boards post jobs that you can specifically apply to.

Before I get to the panic part…
Doug was here for the weekend - I think he had at least 7 naps! In the car, in bed, on the couch, watching golf, … I think he was tired! We went canoeing today. They said it was going to clear up so we went out even though it was grey. We paddled on two lakes (they neighbour each other and you just paddle under the road… ) and I saw my associate teachers new cottage. Anyway, it was grey the whole time we were out… and then as we drove back to Kingston, the sun came out. We had a small picnic on an island and finally found some crown land! We might have to go back to go camping there. The lake the crown land is on is a little loud with lots of speed boats. Hmm… saw a loon, some dead fish… but no real wildlife. Doug did find a snake in our garden yesterday though.
Oh, panic. So yesterday we bought Doug’s train ticket for this evening. No problem. We are on the way to the station and Doug is reading out his ticket - it’s dated for yesterday! Well, we figure they don’t usually check them…. then as we are waiting for the train they announce that they now have assigned seats! So anyway, five mintues before the train comes we get in line to get the ticket changed. The person in front of us is getting a ticket and it sounds like the train is sold out! EEkk! Anyway, all is well, they don’t give us a hassle, and Doug manages to get on the train no problem. Hopefully he gets to Toronto without any problem… he figures he’ll just have another nap.

We are both home - together - for the first time in a month! Doug is enjoying the couch - and his bed - and his tv - and just being in his own house! We did the downtown thing this morning. I think that is the part I will miss the most. The downtown here rocks! It’s such a perfect walk on a summer day.
Oh! The Baskin Robbins is now open! Can’t wait to go! Peanut Butter Chocolate here I come!
We went to a potluck last night - unfortunlately it was raining! The people had a trampoline - my favourite sport!! She said I can come by anytime to use it… not sure if I have the guts to.. but it’s always an option.
Other than that, not much else new except that we bought a house….

My pirate name is: Bloody Roger Rackham
Every pirate lives for something different. For some, it’s the open sea. For others (the masochists), it’s the food. For you, it’s definitely the fighting. You have the good fortune of having a good name, since Rackham (pronounced RACKem, not rack-ham) is one of the coolest sounding surnames for a pirate. Arr!

Well, some of the teaching job postings have come up. My favourite are the 0.1 jobs - like half a day a week. It is a contract so it gets your foot in the door - but still! You can’t even call that a part-time job! Anyway, here’s hoping for a 0.1 - maybe even 0.2!!

Wow! The 2005 Miss Universe is Canadian!
Ryerson Graduate Named Miss Universe
Toronto, ON - June 3, 2005:
The new Miss Universe, Ryerson University graduate Natalie Glebova, intends to use her role to raise awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS research.
The 23-year-old graduate of Ryerson’s School of Information Technology Management is also an accomplished classical pianist and composer, and a former rhythmic gymnast.
Ms. Glebova was selected ahead of 80 other contestants from around the world vying for the title in Bangkok, Thailand on May 31. The Torontonian, who emigrated from Russia with her parents at age 12, is the first Canadian to win the title since 1982.
Describing her victory as “unreal,” Ms. Glebova is looking forward to her hectic year-long schedule as Miss Universe, traveling the world as a goodwill ambassador. She will receive $100,000 in prize money and gifts and during her reign will live rent-free in Trump Tower in New York City.
She told reporters her dream is to open up her own business.
Ryerson’s four-year Information Technology Management program leads to a Bachelor of Commerce degree, and is a hybrid of business and technology, preparing students for management careers in the information and communications technology industry. For more about the program, see Information Technology Management.
Information Technology Management is part of the Faculty of Business at Ryerson University, Canada’s largest undergraduate business school. The Faculty also includes the Schools of Business Management, Hospitality and Tourism Management, and Retail Management.

No, I don’t have any interviews lined up yet - but hopefully will by the end of June - which brings me to my question. What does one wear to an interview when it is 30 degrees outside and schools feel like saunas?? A suit would be umm… a little toasty … it’s pretty tricky! I’ll have to get looking! Oh - and hope for an interview as well.

I’m a bit of a wimp. I had my tetanus shot this week (you get a booster every ten years… are you up to date??) and I have a lump in my arm still that hurts. It has been five days! The theory is that she didn’t put the needle in deep enough so it is taking longer to absorb. I wish it would make a huge bruise so I can get some sympathy or something…

Spigot informed me that our spam filter is on super high security as his comments have been rejected. I have informed Sir Douglas and hopefully that will be fixed soon.
Just a silly thing that happened today - I ALWAYS write notes on my hand and this one guy got a great chuckle that I was using my hand as a note pad. Since he was so intrigued I gave him the words of wisdom that I share now. You don’t write on the inside of your hand, you write on the back of your hand…. it stays on better there.
Oh, and my doctor recommended this herbal remedy thing for me which is working great - except no one in Kingston knows what it is or where to get it! I guess on my next trip to Brampton I will be stopping to get another dose at the pharmacy there! Even the herbal people had no idea…. weird.

I now have two degrees! Woohoo! It was VERY hot in there today - and then the gown on top of that! Hot! And I’m delighted to say that my diploma is in English! It is still left side aligned but I can deal with that as long as I can read it.
Speaking of hot - there was a huge fire by my house tonight in the marsh. I had left my house and saw a fire truck coming toward my neighbourhood but didn’t think anything of it. When I was a few blocks north of here I saw the huge cloud of smoke and then the flames! There was another huge marsh fire, two actually, on the weekend closer to the 401. It’s just so dry. The one by my house didn’t last long which is good news.

I put the new Harry Potter book on hold at the library…. I’m number 115 on the list. Hopefully it comes in before I move…..? Good luck.
So tomorrow is graduation. I made the realization tonight that I won’t get a pretty Queen’s diploma in English like Doug… I get one in latin! Ick! And… it’s all left alignment - not even centred! Oh well, I guess that is what five grand gets you these days. If I did four years at Queen’s like Doug then I might get it in English. A couple of years ago a student discovered that they had printed the date wrong… it took a few months before anyone realized and then they had to reprint them all.
