Our Baby!

May 28th, 2004 -- Posted in News | 2 Comments »

Well, we finally saw our baby today!! She was sitting in the parking lot waiting to get all cleaned up!! She looks great and will look even better when we see her next. It did help us in starting to come up with names so we will work on that probably for the next week although Doug does have a favourite name already.

Not Quite Yet…

May 27th, 2004 -- Posted in News | 2 Comments »

Well, a little update on the arrival of our baby. By the time we decided which of the two cars we wanted … they were both sold. So… we are having to compromise and pay a little more. It appears that Doug might get his colour choice after all. We have to wait and see if this deal gets finalized. So.. perhaps we won’t have our car by the weekend after all.

And for the important stuff…

130 horsepower, 2.0 L VETEC engine, automatic (sigh, almost got a standard… maybe next time), virtually a 2 seater (ain’t nobody gonna wanna sit in that back seat, fine with us we say) but a big enough back side to carry bikes and camping gear, roof rack for all sorts of recreational activities, and (hopefully) a spunky color. You’ll just have to wait for the pictures.

I’m a Grown-Up!!

May 25th, 2004 -- Posted in News | 2 Comments »

Well, today was our first adult purchase without the physical presence of my parents with us. They had guided us through the whole process but weren’t there to hold our hands this time. We ‘ordered’ our car today!!! Now they just have to find it and we might have it by the end of the week!! It was fun learning how to negotiate and seem uninterested, etc. We got more for our car trade in than we had hoped (still not much) but it still runs well so we were pleased. We will post pictures of her when she arrives!!

Picture Pet Peeve

May 25th, 2004 -- Posted in Venting | 4 Comments »

I might have posted about this before but it still bothers me. I really hate only seeing pictures of people’s kids… especially if they belong to friends who I haven’t seen in quite a long time. Chances are, I’ve never even met their kids. Anyway, I would much rather see a whole family picture as I want to know what my friends look like!! Some websites are solely dedicated ONLY to their children and you have no idea what is happening in your friends’ lives or what they look like… you only know that their kid can drool and say ‘baba”. I love hearing about people’s kids but I would also like to know what my friends are up to. Don’t worry Luke and Anne, you do a great job keeping it well rounded!

Risk

May 24th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Well, it looks like our risk of camping on Friday night paid off since it seems to have been raining the rest of the weekend!

I have something scheduled every night this week! Yikes! I am never this busy… luckily my last appointment of the week will be a massage!

Irony

May 22nd, 2004 -- Posted in News | No Comments »

We spent the last 24 hours camping at Frontenac Provincial Park where they called for 15 mm of rain during our whole trip. Well, we got about 15 minutes of rain this morning and that was it but we were prepared with everything we needed if it did rain. Tonight when we got home, we walked to a restaurant for dinner. When we got out, we discovered it was raining… so we walked home in the rain without an umbrella, hood, hat or raincoat. Oh well!!

Car Shopping…

May 17th, 2004 -- Posted in News | 6 Comments »

Well, we went car shopping tonight and we were compaing the roominess of a two door to a four door. Anyway, I couldn’t help but laugh when Doug said “we wouldn’t be using the backseat very much anyway.”

Anyway, I think we have decided on the two door… now we just have to pick a car!

Almost Done

Only 27 days left of work!! WOohoo! This will be my first summer off in a few years so am looking forward to it. I have some major cleaning to do.

New Car

May 15th, 2004 -- Posted in News | 2 Comments »

We are thinking about getting a new car. What are people’s preferences over the Toyota Echo, Mazda 3, Ford Focus, Hyundai Accent and Porsche 911?

I’m Proud!

Vacation

May 12th, 2004 -- Posted in Commentary | No Comments »

I’ve been on vacation now for a week and a half, and I haven’t blogged yet about it. Here’s the overview of my activities:

  • Hiked yesterday - 20+ km in 5 hours (recommended is 6-8 hours). Saw ~ 6 deer, walked ~ 15 feet by a couple as they grazed. Saw ~ 20 snakes — ewww! Hurt my right knee a bit, and I’m somewhat sore all over today.
  • Laid a patio in the backyard with 20 one hundred pound stones. It’s a little wonky, but I’m hoping it’ll settle on it’s own over time.
  • Did a bunch of gardening.
  • Harvested a whole bunch of rhubarb and make stewed rhubarb and a rhubarb pudding.
  • Played on the computer (what would a vacation be without a computer? Going natural? Pshaw.)
  • Took pictures of flowers and buds.
  • Went shopping, returned half of what I bought from home depot
  • Put up eavestroughs.
  • Today I’m going car, grocery, and library shopping.

  • How Many Teachers Does it Take??

    May 10th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | 4 Comments »

Grade 6 testing is on this week at our school… one teacher couldn’t figure out one of the math questions to brought it to the staff room. All of the staff worked on it until one teacher called her husband, an engineer, who presented the problem to the rest of his colleagues. It took his office 20 mintues to figure it out!! So, if an entire school staff can’t figure it out, and it takes engineers 20 minutes to figure it out… how are grade 6 students supposed to figure it out? As for me, I didn’t even attempt it!

    Leasing vs. Owning

    May 9th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | 2 Comments »

We are thinking of leasing a car instead of buying one as the payments would be smaller. Do people recommend leasing and have had success? What are the limitations with leasing?

    Books

    May 9th, 2004 -- Posted in Misc | 4 Comments »

What are people’s favourite books? Doug and I want to do some reading this summer and are looking for good books to read.

    Lemoine Point

Doug and I went for a walk today at Lemoine Point. Here are some pictures from our walk. Sensitive viewers, please note that there are two tiny pictures of a snake….

    Rate Your Teacher

    May 4th, 2004 -- Posted in Computer | No Comments »

Here are my new fun sites that I found out about today. Rate My Professor and Rate My Teacher. On both sites you look up your school, university or college and read all the comments people had about profs/teachers. Very interesting… and let’s you know you weren’t alone in your frustration. Some comments were a little harsh but generally entertaining.

    They had a Baby!!

    May 3rd, 2004 -- Posted in News | 4 Comments »

Congratulations to Jenn and Doug on the safe arrival of Evelyn Marion Jane! Born on April 28 weighing 7 lbs. 5 ozs. And no, it is not US Jenn and Doug but yes, another Jenn and Doug!!

    At a Loss…

    May 3rd, 2004 -- Posted in News | No Comments »

I have put this in the ‘news’ category but it’s more like a lack of news. I’ll do some ramblings I guess. My big oops of the day was at work. It would appear that the work e-mail is not like my e-mail at home. When you hit reply, it appears to reply to all!! Oooopsss!! Luckily it was a decent congratulatory e-mail to my friend, Jenn, who had a baby girl last week. Oopss!! Everyone else knows that already due to my wonderful knowledge of computers.
