Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year before I go to bed…. the year will come whether I am awake to see it or not! See you all next year!
I find it interesting how long it takes a story line to finish on a soap during the year, but over Christmas they can jump from Christmas to New Year’s overnight! During the year, a day could last a month!! It’s been fun catching up with my soap and I know I won’t be missing much until I can catch up again in March!! You only have to watch for five minutes to find out what you’ve missed!!
It happens quite often that there is someone with my exact same first and last name at the dentist’s office, doctor’s office, library, etc. But this Christmas, I discovered someone has TWO Jennifer Mitchell’s in their life. It worked out in my favour as I supposedly sent a wonderful Christmas floral arrangement.
I just love Google over the holidays. It changes the picture on Google every day. For the 100th anniversary of flight, they had made one of the letters an airplane and over Christmas they added snowmen and one day they plowed the ‘o’ away with a snowplow. Last year they had bears opening presents. Remembrance Day they made the ‘o’ into a poppy. It’s just something neat that I like.
Merry Christmas!! I am very stuffed right now after having a yummy supper! I think it’s time for a nap. I hope everyone is having a relaxing and wonderful holiday!!
Ah, what a wonderful day. Christmas is in the air, despite the rain. I made it to Wal-Mart for 8 am … just to walk around before the crowds came. Then off to the library to get some reading for the holidays. I was going to go to Chapter’s since the line was SOOOOO long yesterday, but there really wasn’t anything I needed. I’m just going to relax at home and clean up the mess I have been avoiding for three months. Perhaps I will take a nap… watch Christmas shows…. or do nothing!! A day of leisure!
True story I heard today…. there is this five month old baby that won’t poop in their diaper. They only time they will poop is if they are sitting on a potty… the parents have to hold them on there until they go… If I was a parent, I would think this is great!! No poopy diapers!! Has anyone else heard of something like this??? And it wasn’t like the parents started her on a potty and now she refuses to go in her diaper, it’s that the kid just held it in so they were looking for ways to make them go….
On our way out the door to go see Lord of the Rings Return of the King (that rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?), we noticed some gifts left for us. At first we thought they were silliness of neighbourhood children, but there were no footsteps, and they were all around. We figure the wind and snow worked together to create these snowballs.

Only 4 days left until Christmas…. Yikes!! My shopping is done … I think. Everything has been so scattered this year I’m not sure if I got it all but it will just have to do. I think this holiday will be more about rest and relaxation then gifts. What? Me? Growing up?? Well, it’s not exactly Christmas Day yet … I’m sure my Santa loving, gift loving self will come out in time.
School is out for two weeks… phew… Usually the last week before Christmas gets me into the Christmas spirit but it seemed everyone was lacking Christmas cheer… so no extra spirit for me. I am finding my cheer in other ways… I finally have time to relax and blast the Christmas music and have the Christmas lights on while I dance around the house. I will have time to watch my Christmas movies and wrap a few more presents… I do have Christmas cheer… I do!!
A professor of mine passed away this week. He was an inspirational man who did a lot for people with developmental disabilities and made a lot of changes to they way services were provided. Malcolm Jeffreys made a great contribution to Ryerson as a professor, and to Community Living as its Executive Director in Windsor.
My birthday cake was tasty, but not nearly what we were hoping it would be - it was mostly just a thick truffle type chocolate with a little bit of raspberry on the top. So I made some more raspberry sauce to drizzle, it improved it somewhat.
My birthday was very happy - completely forgotten at work except for a couple of calls from my mother-in-law and father-in-law to brighten my day. Then I didn’t have to work, spent the evening with Jenn, opened my presents (which seemed to have a gardening theme) and then relaxed. The night before we went out to Montanas for all-you-can-eat ribs - tasty, followed by Mile High Mountain Mudpie - yummy.
I have a chocolate lady… or at least that is how I refer to her. She is a fellow educational assistant who had a side business making chocolates. She has now made it a full time business and opened a store this past fall. Now that she has a location to shop from, I seem to be buying a lot more… good for her, bad for my waistline. She has this new chocolate covered licorice which is wonderful…. red licorice. It sounds weird but is just great… Yumm… As you might be able to tell, I stopped there on my way home from work! So, if you are ever out this way, be sure to stop at Chocolate Traditions! She makes great gift baskets, and will also ship…
It is Doug’s birthday today. He got out of his evening shift so we could go party. I bought his cake at this specialty bakery downtown… we usually just go in there and sniff and stare but rarely buy since it can be expensive. But since it’s his birthday, he deserves it. Hopefully the cake is yummy!! We started celebrating last night by going out for dinner with some friends …. wonder where he wants to go tonight?!
Yummy. I had ribs the first time ever a couple years ago at Shoeless Joe’s. Tonight we went to Montana’s for all-you-can-eat ribs, well, I had the ribs - Jenn had her usual. A rack and a half of juicy, slimy, fatty, tasty ribs - honey mustard for the first rack, and apple butter for the second half (I prefer the latter). And I had a side of broccoli to make it all healthy. Ahh, gorging is fun when centered amongst relative starvation.
I have found a disadvantage to getting your Christmas cards done early… today, two people at work came and gave me a hug because they just loved my thoughtful cards … and told me how nice they were. I don’t really remember what I wrote!! Oopss… They are both great super people and I’m sure that is what I told them… and I meant it… but I can’t say that I remember specifically what I wrote. I was a little spazzy so I double checked that I had actually written things in peoples cards before I put them in the mailboxes!!
As a special feature, for those who missed the boat on being the first to get me items on my Christmas list (or just want to go that extra mile for me), here are several NEW items:
No where in Humpty Dumpty does it say he is an egg or egg shape, yet that is how we have always pictured him…. why?
Congratulations to Kristine, Adam and Cody on the safe of arrival of their daughter/sister Zoe Sara Kristine born on Dec. 13 weighing 7 lbs. 6 ozs. Poor Kristine had 60 hours of labour and then finally had a C-section. Ick. But I hear both Mom and baby are doing great!!
Correction: 62 hours of labour!!
I must really be sick. Doug didn’t even want me going to work. I haven’t really been out of bed since Saturday afternoon… we left to go to a Christmas concert and then back to bed I went. I nearly choked at the concert as my airway seems to get a little scratchy so I sucked on candies the whole time. I have hardly been up to check my e-mail!! Yikes! What has happened to me. Well, I have always believed people get sick when they really need a rest so I guess I have really needed one. I haven’t had problems sleeping around the clock… I’m sure the drugs helped though.
