Doug has made a homework plan for me which is rather strict. I do need to buckle down and get my work done as I have been procrastinating quite a bit. So starting Monday, it looks like I will have no life until the end of November. I have two main assignments and one presentation. I haven’t done an individual presentation in years… unless you count my online presentations which I seem to prefer (and do well with with Doug’s help!!). It’s amazing how technology can wow people and help them miss the content… He has put me on a sticker program as well with promises of massages if my work gets done!!

I am going to a Halloween party this weekend and am having a hard time deciding what to wear. I have the ole’ scrubs hanging around but since two of the people at the party are medical people, it doesn’t really seem like a costume. A girl at work gave me an interesting costume, which I don’t want to reveal quite yet. I’ll see if I can get all the different accessories to see if I can make it work. There are only going to be about 10 people at the party so it would be hard to disguise myself as an unknown so I won’t even try. I think this is my first Halloween party so it should be fun!!

I can’t say that I worked too hard today but I haven’t been given much direction at work as to what I should be doing. Things within my job have changed this week but no new programs have been implemented which makes it hard for me to figure out what to do. On a positive note, our class is having a pizza party on Friday!! Woohoo!! I think I know how to program for that. The weather was great today so we went out for recess twice!

I just heard from my cousin in California and she is well. The fire didn’t get too close to her house but there is soot everywhere and the air quality is still quite poor. I haven’t heard any update about my sister since yesterday so I’m not sure if she was evacuated or not.

Congratulations to Mike and Sarita who were married yesterday!! The wedding seemed to go off without a hitch…. for them. There was one small hitch for me though. Since Doug was in the wedding party, I was seated with a table of strangers…. none of them showed up so technically I was the only person at my table. Luckily, the only two people I knew were crowded out of their table and came over to join me!! Other than that, the wedding was great…. Doug really enjoyed the huge Indian/Dutch buffet. I really enjoyed the fact that they intertwined speeches and sentiments while everyone was eating that way you weren’t stuck listening to different people speak for two hours straight. We didn’t get to bed until 2 am so I was pleased that they chose to have their wedding over daylight savings and give us an extra hour of sleep.

There are about seven major wildfires in California and I have relatives in two areas. In one area, my cousin is there with her husband and three small boys. We haven’t heard if she has been evacuated yet but her area has been reported as being evacuated. My sister lives down near San Diego and her sister in law who lives two blocks away was evacuated earlier today and I’m sure she must be evacuated by now. She was busy packing up her dogs and parrot last I heard. I can’t imagine leaving your house knowing it might not be there when you get back. What do you take and what do you leave?

Jenn does really silly things. Her thing tonight is a British accent. It’s not that she does it badly - she actually does a good impression. But some of the things she comes up with are baffling. I really don’t know how her brain works. She makes up words, she talks such nonsense but turns it sensical (somehow), and she perpetually makes me shake my head and grin.
I’m reading a book right now written by a British author. It’s a serious book - about a serial killer, but boy those British talk funny. You really need a source for translations
Jenn’s solo discourse was right out of this book… but not so morbid.

Here it is, the end of the work day, and for some miraculous reason, I didn’t get my picture taken today!! While I was in there with my student, I used all my energy trying to make her smile (she was trying SOOOO hard!) that no one cared if they got my picture. No one even asked me if I had had my picture taken. *GRIN* I did it!! Woohoo… hopefully they don’t trap me on retake day. Anyway, they took the pictures with a digital camera which I thought was cool so we could see if we had a nice shot of my student!

Argh! It is picture day at work today (lovely elementary schools!). You would think this torture would end once you finished school but for some reason I have to continue to put myself through this each year. Luckily they have stopped doing the class picture and have started using your individual photo to put together a composite of the class. Perhaps I will try to get out of it again this year… last year they tracked me down!

Yippee!! We moved our blog over successfully!! Oh, I surprised Doug today by doing grocery shopping AND making supper all in the same day. What a shocker.

I bought something in a colour I swore I would never wear…. PINK. I was Old Navy with my friend and I tried it on more for size than colour since it was closest one to me. (being short… the rest were up to high to go searching!!) Anyway, she really liked it on me and convinced me to get it. I have been meaning to add colour to my wardrobe (all I have is navy, black, hunter green and red… ) so this was a perfect opportunity to expand. Doug loves it so and has hired Emily as my fashion consultant.

We just got back from seeing Runaway Jury… very good. I had read the book quite a while ago so it wasn’t too fresh. It was a good movie though and would recommend it. I only closed my eyes for two quick scenes!

This winter chill is really getting to me this year and it’s not really cold out yet!! Yikes. I think we missed fall where you bundle in your sweater for nice walks in the woods… we just went from warm to cold winds where I need my mittens! I wore a thick turtleneck sweater at work today and was still frozen. They put this new vent in our classroom that leads right outside…. brrrr….

Chapters and Indigo have changed their reward program… and are advertising it badly. They advertise that with the card, you save an additional 10% which sounds like you are now saving 20%…. They actually mean that you get 10% off of regularly priced books but an additional 10% off of sale books. Silly. AND you used to get 10% off of books ordered online and now you only get a 5% discount. There is also no longer the collection of points… hopefully you have enough points to get your final gift certificate. Not sure how many points I have… hopefully enough.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving!! The weather was fantastic… we were even wearing shorts on Saturday!! Our weekend involved a lot of food… our turkey dinner, pecan pie, Swiss Chalet, Lick’s, Krispy Kreme… the list goes on. We had a nice relaxing time and really enjoyed ourselves. We compromised and didn’t leave until Saturday because Doug wanted to play hockey. In turn, I got to shop on the way to Toronto at my favourite stores!!
