Here is a picture of my friend Gary who had the honour of doing a photo shoot with Gwyneth Paltrow while he was teaching in England. You can catch the back of him in the October issue of Vogue on page 338. He also got to meet Chris Martin of Coldplay!!

Here I am sitting at my computer and I hear the Ryan Malcolm concert live, just down the street!! I’ve never seen Wal-Mart so busy!!! It’s pretty cool to have our own local celebrity!!

Ryan Malcolm will be in Kingston tomorrow!! He is coming to release his new single… he is going to be at Wal-mart, which I happen to live behind so I guess I should get home early so I can actually get to my house. There were about 3000 people who went to see him when he came to town and that was before he won Canadian Idol. I don’t know how many people will show up tomorrow!! My friend at work got to shake his hand and take his picture on the weekend at the Blue Jays game.

Brrr….. usually I don’t mind the fall coming, but I seem to be dreading it. I guess it is in the in between stage right now where the leaves haven’t changed too much to make the beauty of it help you through the chill of it. There was a great double rainbow on my way to work this morning… that was a nice way to start the day. It is clouding over now which makes me feel a little blah. Maybe I’ll get myself a yummy treat and watch Dr. Phil tell people how to lose weight… Hmmm…

The wedding was wonderful. The weather held off until the reception. It was quite windy until they went for their pictures when it seemed to die down a little. The sun came out just in time as well. The nice thing about this wedding was that people you met, you get to see them again in a month at Mike and Sarita’s wedding so you can continue where you left off! We will post a picture or two when we get them uploaded. I must say, that they had some of the best speeches ever. There were a lot and I was worried but pretty much all of them were funny and kept our attention. The bride looked spectacular and as I type, she and the groom are on a plane on their way to Hawaii. *sigh*.

Hopefully the wind dies down out there before the wedding. Trudy wanted her pictures done at Upper Canada Village…

All the best to Trudy and Keith who are getting married tomorrow. Should be quite exciting…. we are also looking forward to the Dutch cakes. We had a sampling at the wedding shower and we will have it after the wedding and at the reception too!! Yumm..

Well, it’s almost that time again - birthday and Christmas, so here’s the list copied from last year, newly updated (updated October 4, 2003).
KitchenAid mixer (with attachments) - $280 at Canadian Tire (Classic Series: 4.5 Quart, tilt away, 250 Watt, as shown below, is more than adequate, but any of the other better models would be fine too)
Snorkeling gear $45 at MEC.ca
Aquarium & accessories
You have the right… and Techy t-shirts
Fender/splash guard for front-suspension bike (just the front fender), extension handles, biking gloves ($29 at MEC.ca), another jersey ($39 at MEC.ca)
Guinness golf-shirt (warning: they’re ~ $80)
Electric toothbrush (not the $7 kids ones)
Garlic press (or the kind that you twist, similar to the cheese kind)
Gift-certificate to Chapters, Canadian Tire, Old Navy, Mountain Equip. Co-op, Lee Valley, Home Depot, etc.
Beer (Guinness, Keiths, Hoegaarden, Sleemans, Kilkenny), wine, sherry, or whatever you think I might like
Seeds for fun/funky/unique plants (especially perennials or indoors)
Self-watering Seed Starters (AA700, only $18.50 at Lee Valley)
Plant stands (PL563 or PL561, only $65/$69 at Lee Valley)
Birkenstocks (size 43 regular)
Lamps (antique-like - maybe pewter)
Mounted deer/moose head (with a nice rack - that is, antlers)
Binoculars have been on my list for a while - my obsession has waned somewhat, but I think I would use them. I’m not wanting one of the fold-up types, and I don’t want them to be too big.
A home theatre including any or all of the following: DVD player (~ $150-200), speakers and receiver (~ $600), projector (~ $2500) or big-screen plasma/LCD TV (~ $600 for regular TV - $6000 for plasma/LCD).
Portable dust filter system (03J05.30, only $145.00 at Lee Valley)
Lumber !! (If you have a source for good value rough-cut lumber - that would even be a nice gift [I found the best supplier, I just need to get to Colborne])
Pay off my student loan!
Leather loveseat/couch at Kingston Clocks (it’s a couple thousand, but it will go so nice with my home theater, and I figure I may as well put it down in case someone loves me
Automatic plant waterers (XC475, only $7.95 at Lee Valley)
3V DC adapter for the FujiFilm Finepix 2600 Zoom (~ $60)
NOTE: I’m a little picky, so a nice gesture is to include (or hang onto) the receipt - I will not judge, so don’t worry.

We have a mysterious fly problem. We keep getting flies and we are not sure why (and I like to rhyme)(hee hee.. I did it again!) Anyway, they keep appearing in the bathroom… not sure if they are coming in through the fan/vent or it seems they might be behind the light?!? At first, I was catching them and releasing them outside and thought maybe it was a smart fly who kept finding its way back to the bathroom… but many have died since then, so not sure why new ones keep popping up.

IT’S TRUE!! Hershey has stopped making Brown Cow. I have been using that stuff for about 20 years and now I have to quit cold turkey. I didn’t even savour my last bottle as I didn’t know it would be my last. *sigh*. I’m trying to get used to Nestle Quick but it’s just not the same. So, if you see ANY Brown Cow anywhere, please pick it up!!

It was an exciting day. After lunch, I returned to the room where I have been working on my latest assignment doing computer stuff (I could go into more details, but it’d likely bore most people), and there was a phone on the desk. I had just emailed someone earlier in the day and stated that there was no phone so they could contact me by visiting, paging, or emailing me. I re-checked my email and there were a couple of messages, each stating that that room is now my very own office! It’s pretty big (12′ x 12′), has a window to outside, a lock on the door, a desk, a computer, and a comfy chair and a hard chair (I use the hard chair ‘cuz the comfy chair is too low and too comfy). I’m so excited! I’ve had a couple of visitors already, and it’s fun! But then I can close the door and it’s completely silent, so my work is ultra-ultra-productive. I’m afraid to tell colleagues (and my boss) how much fun I’m having lest they judge me as not working hard enough. But I think that my excitement is apparent anyways. Too much fun. I hope this adrenaline rush never ends.

Always a bride, never a bridesmaid. Well, I was a bridesmaid for my sister, but that doesn’t count, she was family. My friend Merry-Anne just got engaged on the weekend to Duncan and has asked me to be a bridesmaid!!! I’m so excited. She sang wonderfully at my wedding and it would be great to be part of hers too!! Congratulations you two love birds!!

I guess there is a couple getting married in Ottawa this weekend that have spent $40,000 on rose petals. That doesn’t include the rest of their flowers. Imagine that?? I guess it was in the paper on the weekend. It’s not like people will get that much enjoyment out of rose petals… now, $40,000 on dessert… hmmm… maybe I could live with that.

Doug has saved the corn!! He staked it and hopefully that will work. We have a new little cob on the way!!

I made a raspberry sour cream coffee cake. Well, actually it was rhubarb, but I swapped raspberries for rhubarb. Then I had to cut down the sugar from 1 1/2 cups brown sugar to just 1 cup, ‘cuz raspberries are sweeter. Oops, no whole wheat flour, so used regular flour and a bit of bran. That made it a little dry so I added some milk, and a bit more sour cream. It didn’t look like too much so I put it in a 9×9 instead of 9×13, but then it was a little high. The icing called for sugar, but icing sugar is smoother, and measuring vanilla is silly because I always add extra, so I just glopped it in. It’s cool now, better go see how my experiment-based-on-a-recipe tastes.

LAFARGE had their 30th anniversary celebration today in Bath, ON. It was free so of course we went. When you arrived you received a goodie bag with a pen, a frisbee, paper and some pamphlets. There were information booths set up to learn more about the company… we were able to go up to the control room and peak in. Then there was a bus tour through the quarry which was awesome. We also drove through some of the buildings on the site. Our tour finished with a free barbeque. It was awesome and it was all free!!

I am a little sad. Doug decided to try to grow some corn this year… he planted right out our front door. In the last two weeks, we started seeing some cobs growing and we had three!! Every morning when he left for work, we would do an inspection to see how much bigger the cobs were and if there were any new cobs. Well, with the hurricane passing through today, our corn stalks blew over!! Since it is still storming out, it is hard to tell if we can salvage them and stand them back up… we’ll have to scope out the damage tomorrow.

Congratulations to Dawn and Barry on the safe arrival of their new baby girl, Alexxa, born yesterday at 5 lbs. 5 oz.!! Poor Dad couldn’t be there for the birth because they told her that she had lots of time before the baby would be born so he popped home and out popped the baby!! So Terry, if you’re reading this, stay put when it comes time!!
