Tomorrow is Day 40 in my Adventure in Working Extreme(ly) - AWE. Except for 2 days off (July 1 and 18), it’s been 40 straight days. I’m really looking forward to this long weekend. Unfortunately, strange as it may sound, I’m more afraid of getting bored. When you become a workaholic, it’s easily done because you whittle leisure activities out. I’ve been working all day, working evenings and weekends, and even my “leisure” activities involve physio/tech related activities on the computer & internet. I’ve signed out a bunch of books from the library to read, I’ll go for a bike ride and swim, maybe hang out at Tim’s for an early morning breakfast, and honestly - I don’t know what else. I’m kinda nervous and scared. I need to force myself to not simply resort to the old standby - surfing the net and internet-based career development things. Detox, withdrawal, and hangover… but not from alcohol, unless I get really depressed. I’m sure I’ll find some fun things to do… any ideas?

Everyone who knows me, knows that I love Christmas!! So you can understand my excitement when I heard TWO Christmas songs on Sunday. One was on the Christian radio station on the way home from church and the other was at church. The pastor broke into “Joy to the World” for the closing song. It was awesome! We shouldn’t restrict Christmas songs to December… they won’t even sing them the last Sunday of November!! I do prefer the year round sort of idea.

I had dinner last night at a friends house that is right on Lake Ontario! It was beautiful. I still really want to live on the water, especially if I get a view like that. I’m still a little hesitant to live in the country… I wouldn’t mind staying on city water and sewer systems. All the country folks at work are getting their water tested all the time, digging up their septic systems… I just like the security of the city systems. I will have to put up with it for the view I guess. It was a beautiful night! I saw my first SITTING hummingbird last night as well.

Jenn was saying that I haven’t blogged anything in a while. I’m at ~ 35 days of my 40 day stretch, 5th straight weekend. I think I’ll survive considering that in 5 days I have a long weekend, then 4 days, then 2 weeks of holidays! Besides, there are many wonderful things happening - I’m contributing to 2 local hospitals, and therefore the public health of my community, I’m making lots of money, I’m keeping busy (which is a whole lot better than being bored), and it forces me to enjoy my time of better than ever before. I love my job, and I love the opportunities I have - I never want to be a whiner. I wish I had more drive to get out on my bike. I wish, at times, that I wasn’t so addicted to the internet. I wish that my career included more information technology developments and opportunities. But life is joyously going on.

In May I mailed a package to a friend and it took a month!! I thought it was lost for sure…. but it did show up. This past Thursday I mailed a package about the same distance and it arrived overnight. I’m glad I didn’t pay for package tracking or rush delivery!

Poor Doug… he’s so tired. Work work work… at least he only has half days of work this weekend. Then next weekend is a long weekend… then four days of work and finally holidays!! I think he’ll need a BIG sleep.
Today I noticed that my website bookmarks are missing. I only have the first few categories and the rest are gone. Hopefully Doug can find them for me. He’s so handy that way. There is a great video I had bookmarked but I have no idea what it was called to find it again. *sigh* I’m sure I could call the agency that showed it to me but how do I explain that I saw it about 10 years ago, and I have no idea what it’s called.

WOohoo!! No postal strike. I am a bit of a mail addict so I was getting a little distraught at the idea of not having any mail. *sigh*. So glad to hear it is all resolved.

Well, I have finished unwinding by reading Harry Potter. I read it in about two days and it was quite enjoyable. I do hate it when a book ends because you get so into it and then it’s over. At least I know there are two more books on its way, it might be a while though.

Well, I am back from TO and to unwind, I have been reading the latest Harry Potter novel. It is quite a long one at 766 pages. I am about 3/4’s complete and just started yesterday. So far, it’s a great read. While in Toronto, I spied one child reading the book, but countless adults. Interesting.

I am finally home!! I got to sleep in my own bed last night which was awesome… Kim’s futon is nice but there is nothing like your own bed. Last night when I got home, there was a note to meet Doug at our friends house. I called them and they asked me to pick up a few things so I did and bought myself some diet caffeine free Coke. Or so I thought. The new caffeine free pop isn’t diet!! The packaging is almost the same as the diet, which is gold and I just quickly grabbed it. I was wondering why it was tasting to good!!

I haven’t been posting very much lately, partly because of the really busy work schedule I’ve had. My regular full-time job in Napanee, plus 1 hour of travel per day, plus my regular 2 evenings per week in Kingston, plus three out of five weekends in Kingston, plus a weekend conference = 25 straight days (excluding Canada Day) and ~ 64 hours per week for the past 3 weeks. It was supposed to be a nice long weekend, but I’ve been called in to work this weekend in Napanee (thankfully, only to see one patient). I thought summers were supposed to be about sitting in the back yard drinking beer and going to the beach. I’m working next weekend, but the next weekend is another 3 day weekend, followed by 4 days of work before a 2 week vacation. That sounds better.

Yummm… I had Krispy Kreme again on the weekend!! I am so glad there isn’t one in Kingston or else I would be a little on the pudgy side. The past two times I have gone I haven’t received a free donut!! At least they still had donuts this time. The last time we went they didn’t have anymore of their specialty donuts!!

I took the streetcar during rush hour yesterday… my friend and I weren’t going to hop on but decided to go for it since we had been waiting quite a while. We ended up riding on the front stairs of the streetcar. The driver was pretty funny making comments that no one was getting on because when he opened the door, the only thing people saw was our butts!! It was a cramped ride home but it was worth it!! Definitely a Toronto experience.

I just realized that I met Doug ten years ago!!! Weird to think that I’ve known him that long!!

Well, I am in Toronto for two weeks taking a course. Last year when I came, it was during a heat wave and the garbage strike and close to when the Pope was coming to visit. It seems a lot less crowded, a little cooler and smells a bit better as well. I haven’t done anything too exciting since I got here… but on the weekend I saw Legally Blond 2 and yesterday I went to the World’s Largest Bookstore!! Of course, my friend and I visited the overpriced candy store!! Yumm. We have a tradition of bringing snacks to class.

Bachelor Days Summer 2003 have begun. It means struggling to get the laundry done, a progressively messy house (with a mad dash to cleanliness on the last day), drinking beer and eating whatever I want (or don’t), and spending hour upon hour on the computer. I may throw in a bit of biking, and maybe a movie or two, but ahhh… it gets lonely.

There is a rather disturbing commerical by Elastoplast out. It basically insinuates that both the husband and wife are having an affair. I found it rather horrifying so I wrote to the company to complain. Supposedly it has been airing in other areas for a while and I am the first to complain. I got two free boxes of bandaids out of the deal but it is still a bad commercial. I can’t believe what they use to market stuff now.

I went to get my haircut today but Crazy Laura and she told me I was her FAVOURITE client!! Imagine that… Me!! I am always crazy and wacky when I get my hair cut and she usually provides me with chocolate but she didn’t think I would want any today at 9 am????!!!! She obviously doesn’t know me too well. She told me that she looks forward to me coming in! Woohoo! The only problem is that she has switched salons and now I have to pay for parking. Eekks!! It is a much nicer place though!

Happy Canada Day!! My brother Jeff and our friend Mike are here visiting. We have our Canada shirts on and are off to see the town and celebrate!!
