I made a scary realization

June 30th, 2003 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

I made a scary realization today. It has been ten years since I graduated from high school. TEN!!! Isn’t there supposed to be some party or something? Not that I actually enjoyed high school… I hated it so much that I got out as soon as I could therefore I don’t really know many people from my graduating class as they aren’t really MY class. Oh well. TEN!! Sorry, I’m still in shock!

My brother is here to visit for the week so that should be fun. I made the shopping rounds on my way to pick him up. There is a great store in Belleville with a bakery and country stuff. So I bought some treats! Shortly after leaving there my parents called to say they were in traffic so I decided to venture out to the candle outlet that I hadn’t been to in a while… they have some very realistic floral scented candles that I love so I bought a few small ones since I really don’t need any more candles. So I waited at the Big Apple for them and got to see all the new renovations. They are putting in a small train by the looks of it. They have also redone the mini putt but there didn’t seem to be as many bunnies hopping about. OH!! Speaking of wildlife, we saw another turtle today. That is three in two weeks!! I have never seen turtles around here and today there was one in someone’s backyard.

I saw the cab from a distance today… .*sigh*. There was a time when I would never ride in a cab and now I have to go cold turkey from riding in them twice a day!! No more finding loose change under the floor mats… no free chocolate bars. Well, it’s Larry’s birthday in the next week so I gave him a small present yesterday. It was just a collection of his favourite chocolate bars… he seemed pretty excited. He bought me a drumstick at the end of our last ride… *sigh* but if we’re lucky we’ll be working together in the fall. I don’t think I could break in another cabbie.

Well, here we are, the end of school. I went in today to help clean and sort and then said good-bye. There are lots of great people leaving the school this year but the fun ones are still left behind. Next year is exciting and scary as a lot of the ‘fun’ people will all be working in one hall. There are three teachers who are fun to work with in that hall and then there will be five EA’s within those classes… WOOHOOO!! I’m sure we’ll get some work done too.

Doug saved a turtle today… We were walking along the train tracks and there was turtle in between them. It didn’t look like he would be able to climb over the rail to get to the water… so Doug helped him over the rail and onto ground where he could get to the water. Doug ended up with turtle pee on his hand but it was worth it!!

I’ve finally been appreciated!! As an EA, it seems that the teacher always gets credit for all the work that you do and they get these lavish gifts at the end of the year, and you get nothing!! Well, this year, the teacher got a small box of chocolates and I got a gift certificate worth more than chocolates!! It was nice to know that my work didn’t go unnoticed!!

The skunk saga continues… across the road, there are FOUR skunks living under their porch. The sad thing is, is that they just moved in a month ago. I think they are getting married this weekend and are worried that they people staying with them will meet their new pets!! They were quite brave tonight (or not so smart) whipping stuff at them… the skunks were getting a little annoyed. Needless to say, we didn’t hang around too long!!

Congratulations to my cousin Christine

Only six more rides with Larry…. how does one say goodbye to a cab driver?

Doug and I went to the International Air Show in Trenton today. We have decided that is where we are going to relocate since we love the roar of the jet engines!! There was a vehicle there, not a plane, that has the world record for speed going at 652 km/hour… and has a huge flame out the back…. There was a few planes for the US Army…. one enoromous cargo one. It was higher than the hangar for sure… We didn’t stay for the Snowbirds as it would have been another hour. We both have sunburns and decided to call it quits after being there for five hours. There was lots to see and it was neat being on the base. VERY tight security as they scanned your bags on the way in and security guys walking around were actually looking at things and scoping out everything unlike the ones at usual shows where they just kind of sit in one spot in the shade. I guess the high is supposed to 34 degrees for the next three days… and that is before the humidex. So, we will be digging out the sunscreen this week for sure!!

Actually, I think I was the one who started with the morbid thoughts years ago. I think I have a list of songs that I want played at my funeral. Sometimes we’re in the car and I hear a song and tell Doug that that is one of my funeral songs. We’re a chipper couple!!

This is the song I’m playing at Jenn’s funeral (ain’t I morbid?):
Natalie Merchant - Beloved Wife song lyrics

you were the love
for certain of my life
you were simply my beloved wife
I don’t know for certain
how I’ll live my life
now alone without my beloved wife
my beloved wife

I can’t believe
I’ve lost the very best of me

The new Harry Potter book

June 19th, 2003 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

The new Harry Potter book is being released on Saturday. Most of the bookstores in town are having a release party on Friday night and selling the book at midnight. I asked Doug if he wanted to go Harry Potter Party Hopping and he said NO. *sigh*. Well, it’s not like I was going to buy the book…. and I’m sure I will have to wait quite a while to get my hands on a copy to read. I’m glad she makes her books thick…. makes it worth the wait!!

Only nine taxi rides left.

June 18th, 2003 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Only nine taxi rides left. I might have to call a cab in the summer as I might miss the frightening drives, the cigarette burns in the seat and finding loose change on the floor!! Oh, Larry finally got my window fixed!! There was a small fire while I was in the cab a few months ago which shorted my power window. The car filled with smoke and none of the windows would go down so at every corner we opened the doors to get some fresh air. Anyway, all the other windows worked after that but not mine (I always sit in the same spot… to block my view of the cars we almost hit!!). So, now that the weather is nice, it’s great to be able to open my window!!

Hmm… Starbuck’s could become addictive… luckily it’s too expensive to want to go there too often. It’s like dessert in a cup!! Yummm… I met another friend there last night for another Caramel Frappachino.

June 14th, 2003 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

We were at Starbuck’s for about an hour today visiting with a friend who was in town…. we got THREE free samples!! White Chocolate Mocha, Chai Frappachino (I think), and a Chocolate Mal Frappachino… that was on top of the huge Caramel Frappachino that Doug and I ordered. We are full … Doug made a great dinner for us but now that we are home, we’re not so hungry….

June 14th, 2003 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Such excitement in our day:

  • there were 2 small holes in the ground around our house - one that looked like erosion, the other may have been animal induced (too small for skunk, besides, he’s erradicated)
  • a whole slew of fancy souped up cars (like on Fast and Furious) are lined up on a downtown city street, music thumping; homeless person/guitar-playing busker asks them to turn it down
  • football field at local high school - football game being played (Jenn thought that was exciting)
  • 2 police cars on our street; 3 officers, [arse], [arse]’s wife, old lady, brown boy, two white boys standing together talking: {Jenn’s monologue follows}: “officer holds two fingers up to [arse] and talks very firmly to [arse]… officer is back talking to old lady… two white boys talking to one another … officer still facing this way (as Jenn leans away from the window) … not nosey neighbour goes to check mail … has something to do with stolen property … that wasn’t stolen … someone has final decision about whether to purchase item… still no sign of [arse] and other officer … officer laughing with old lady - throws his head back - ha ha … white boy parting from the scene … up, up to the red Honda, no, no, still running, out of sight … one white boy left at the scene … oh, oh, oh, uh, unconfirmed white mail exiting left … old lady touching officer - hmm… poor old lady hanging onto cane for dear life … “Do you understand that when…” SHH! … old lady waving her finger … group disperses.”
    Oh, what else can happen?!?

Doug brought me home some butter tarts from the Odessa bakery. These tarts are infamous… and quite wonderful. Great pastry… just enough gooey filling, and just enough burnt filling to make it chewy… YUMM!!
