I always find it amazing that when you spell a word incorrectly while doing an online search and actually get hits. It wouldn’t be too surprising if you landed on someone’s personal page, but ending up on government sites and large companies is rather shocking!

I went to the gym

May 29th, 2003 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

I went to the gym today with a friend from work. She has lost 120 lbs. in 6 months and she made me look sooooo bad. She is in such great shape and well… I’m not. We went on the Elyptical… or something machine. She usually goes for 1/2 hour and at 5 minutes my legs were burning. We ended up doing 15 minutes and I was proud of that. I will never buy another gym membership so I have called around to see how much day passes are. I can go to Queen’s WITH Doug but not alone for $6.00, YMCA for $8.00, Good Life Fitness for $15.00 or this gym by our house for $6.00. The past two gym visits no one has asked for my info so I haven’t had to pay anything!!

We went to the gym today - it was amazing how good and easy it felt to run as compared to when I was 20 lbs heavier. I actually ran for 10 minutes at 7 (I dunno the units, but it felt fast - Jenn said it looked fast) - total exercise time 25 minutes. I don’t think I’ve ever in my life run for more than 5 minutes. Anyways, I may make a habit of this - I was surprised at how fun it was.

What does that mean? …. “but mine was amazing”. It makes it sound like cream corn and rice aren’t amazing!! They are two of my favourite dishes… so, MY supper was also amazing!!!

I made such a good supper last night. Jenn made her own (cream corn and rice) but mine was amazing. Sauteed 1 large onions and 3 garlic cloves in olive oil, then added 1-2 small potatoes cut into chunks. Mix in a can each of tomatoes and chick peas. Then starts the spices - 2 tsp parsley, 2 tsp basil, 2 1/2 tsp curry, 1 tsp hot peppers, 1 tsp ginger, 3 tsp Worchestershire sauce, 1/2 tsp black pepper, and 1/4 cup raisins. Then add mushrooms and green peppers (to use them up before they go bad, for me at least). Season to taste. Simmer for 20 minutes. Served over couscous. Yummy! I came up with this on my own after compiling 3 or 4 recipes from a variety of websites. I call it - “Moroccan Chickpea Chili”.

I’m sitting here at the computer and see that someone else on the street is having some digging under their front porch *goes outside and snoops* Aha!! Somoene finally gave in and hired an exterminator. Actually, I looked them up in the phone book and they are humane, no poisons, etc. Perhaps our little skunk neighbour will be moving out soon!!

Doug’s new glasses are quite nice!! The girl at the store is great… she was there two years ago when Doug got his last pair. She is so helpful and knows what looks good, what is a proper fit, etc. We definitely recommend Laurier Optical.

I was going to post pictures of my new glasses, but there isn’t much perceivable difference observed on the pictures. They’re lighter, fancier, smaller, and much much sexier! You’ll have to trust me.

I don’t remember if I wrote about this (and am too lazy to go and look) but I received an e-mail from an old co-worker that the company was looking for old employees as they had new pay equity and that I was on the list to receive money!! Yippeeee!! I didn’t think it could be very much since I haven’t worked for them in four years but I wasn’t sure how far back the retro went. Well, I received the form a week later and it said the retro was from Jan. 1999- Dec. 2003. Hm… that didn’t leave much hope for me since I stopped working in 1999 and only did a few shifts that year anyway. Well, my large cheque of $9.20 arrived today. I guess I will treat Doug to McDonald’s tomorrow! I’m not complaining, I’ll take free money any day!!

The skunk liveth! He’s back

May 20th, 2003 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

The skunk liveth! He’s back and digging under our neighbours porches (plural - as in on both sides… strange but happy that he’s leaving us alone). He’s not very pretty - not like a cute kitten with a white stripe - he looks grungy and varmint like. I actually saw him for the first time tonight, if I see him again I’ll take his picture (the flash will probably cause him to spray me, but for you - it’s worth it!).

I was in Toronto the past week on a course on Team Work. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and ended up working with a great, fun team!!

The skunk situation hasn’t changed much. He/she seems to have relocated to the neighbours on the other side of us. It is quite a determined skunk as they have put up concrete slabs, put lots of rocks in, and it still manages to find a way under their porch. Hopefully that skunk doesn’t decide to move here!!

I’m following the advice of a friend, who suggested that I divide my personal publications from my name, so as to ensure that my thoughts and ideas do not come back and haunt me, either in the form of personal backlash, or professional damage. As a result, postings on SillySpot by Jenn will continue (as she is the original and greatest of the silly) as long and as much as she wants, but my postings on SillySpot will consist of mostly news (i.e. updates about my finger, pictures from nature and social events) and in general, factual reports. As far as my thoughts, perspectives, discoveries, and opinions - well, Cognitickle (my personal page) has been euthanized, but my expressed personality will exist in some form, either implicitly in me, or pseudo-explicitly elsewhere on the net. Good luck if you try to find my needle in the web-publishing haystack - may you succeed if you value my ideas as a road to discovery, but may you be frustrated if you do so out of malice. Alternately, you can always email me.

The stitches came out today - it’s a little stiff, but feels good, and looks nice too. Thanks Kelly (my hip-hop/rap buddy)!

My News for Physios site cracked the top 200 list of Bloglet with the 27th subscriber to the mailing list. Unfortunately, the mailing list isn’t working, so people won’t get anything - but hopefully that will change on Monday.

We went for a walk

May 10th, 2003 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

We went for a walk (not saying where for reasons of national security), and we saw a hugely long train that went forever… with what Jenn counted to be about 100 military vehicles - mostly tanks, and Jeep/Hummer-type things, and a couple of bulldozers. The conductor waved to us too. That’s our new fascination in life - waving to train conductors. It makes us feel special. Anyways, it felt like we were the kids in Iraq watching the Americans (but for us it was the Canadian military) travel into our area. It would’ve been neat if there were guards on every couple cars to add to the intrigue. It would be more significant if the vehicles were covered, but that would detract from the fascination.

May 10th, 2003 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

I have come up with a new theory as to why North America has become so obese. My friend and I were talking about how we would love to have ice cream and popcorn for supper but then are told what an awful supper that is by society. So, we have a our full dinner of meat and potatoes and THEN people eat the ice cream and popcorn. If people were not told what constituted as ‘breakfast’ foods, ‘dinner’ foods, ’snack’ foods, then I think people would be skinnier. I would have consumed probably double the calories eating supper and ice cream and popcorn then if I had only consumed the ice cream and popcorn. Some people can get by on only two meals a day by they advocate that you must eat three and definitely eat a big breakfast. There are so many rules but I am sure they don’t hold true for everyone. So, if society let us eat only what we truly wanted to, we would be skinnier. As for heart problems and general health, well, that would be a different story.
