Larry ditched me yesterday with no warning and didn’t send Kenny to get me. I had a stranger… cab 45!! While I was in the cab I heard something for cab 17 and I wondered if someone else was driving it. Luckily everything was back to normal in the afternoon. I turned out that he had picked up a call 15 minutes before he was to pick up me but they wanted to go to the other side of town so he didn’t have time to get me. He said he would buy me a pop today so I guess that will make up for it.
We’re horrible people. We killed a baby turtle. It’s not like we did it on purpose but in the tire tracks in our driveway we discovered it’s little carcus. So sad.
Congratulations to Mike who got engaged over Easter!!
Tomorrow marks the official Kingston start of summer. The Queen’s students move out!!! For some reason, as soon as they leave, the “ghetto” doesn’t look so bad. There isn’t garbage on the streets or broken beer bottles everywhere. The grass gets green and the leaves are on the trees. The tourists move in and they are much better pedestrians than the students. Besides, the Queen’s students leave a lot behind and Kingstonians go dumpster hopping to see what they can get. Someone got a bar fridge last year, and there is always couches!! Too bad I have plans in the morning… all the good stuff will be gone by the time we can get downtown.
The cab has been in the shop all week to repair the damage from our accident in March. Well, I guess it was in two accidents that day and needed major repairs. So, Larry hasn’t been driving me all week. I have had Kenny who is a major flirt. Very annoying. I guess if I actually worked WITH him then I could file sexual harrassment charges but since it’s just a cab, what can I do. He is nice and not slimy like a lot of the drivers. Besides, he has an amazingly clean cab so beggers can’t be choosers. Larry is supposed to be back on duty today and my routine will be back to normal. Besides, Larry was supposed to be in Belleville last weekend and I gave him directions to the Country Store and want to know if he went!
Why is it that ESPN commentators do hockey games in a monotone, but CBC commentators use the best expressions and voice fluctuations? Oh yeah - CBC is Canadian, and as such, are by far the hockey experts. Oh baby, this is some kind of hockey! Actually, the best comment I ever heard was [in reference to a player skating up the ice from behind their own goal] “And he’s rolling up his sleeping bag as he passes the puck…” Cute.
My goatee is looking like Owen Nolan’s. It wouldn’t mean much if you didn’t watch the Leafs lose to Philly in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. His goat was really thick and long - I think the guy from Aerosmith or some metal/heavy rock band has one similar. Now I just need to work on growing the mustache nice and long too! ![]()
I made a delicious carrot cake with lemon/cream cheese icing last night. I love cakes with vegetable bases - you can justify eating them for meals and snacking during the day - it’s virtually calorie/point free! I got the recipe out of the LCBO magazine. That’s a nice marketing venture - it’s like a disposable cookbook with teasers of beers, wines, and other liquors. It has a permanent place in my bathroom reading rack, along with the MEC catalogue, Lee Valley catalogue, Canadian Tire catalogue, and Canadian Home Workshop magazines.
Here’s a tasty summer-y recipe (measurements are simply estimates - just do what seems right, that adjust to taste): 1 cup cantaloupe chunks, 2/3 cup milk, 2 tbsp sugar, 3 ice cubes — blend the heck out of it till ice is mostly gone, then drink. Yummy.
It’s snowing again. I guess Ottawa is supposed to get a lot of snow… hopefully Kingston isn’t included in that!
Happy belated birthday to Amelia!!
Happy Easter!! It is gorgeous out. We went to my friends church in Mississauga this morning…. Hope Community Church (don’t have my cheat sheets with me to link it) and they actually sang hymns!! I really miss singing them. We had an Easter egg hunt this morning… I think Jeff won. When Doug hides the eggs, he forgets that he is six foot and the rest of us are five foot nothing. So Doug got some of the higher ones while the rest of us got the low ones. We made a stop at Krispy Kreme on the way home from church. I am glad that there isn’t one in Kingston… I would be there all the time for my free donut!
What does one pack when you are expecting freezing rain, then high UV index and then clouds….. ?
It was a warm day yesterday and on our way back to the school, Larry bought me a pop!!! What a swell guy. I think I will have to take him an Easter treat tomorrow.
I’m really pissed off at doteasy.com. I’ve used them to host several webpages including Diabeteseducation.ca, Injurymanagement.ca (for my Injury Management, News for Physios, and Diabetes: Exercise and Footcare sites), Sillyspot.com, and HopeCommunityChurch.ca … so apparently I’m a little commited to them. You’d also think that for this reason that they would be willing to kiss up to me a bit, and maybe they were trying but it’s not turning out that way. They say that they are trying to upgrade the server to a faster one. They’ve done this before - I don’t know if it’s just a cheesy excuse for “we can’t handle the load” or what. So they send me an email on Friday (after I checked my email for the last time that day at work), which I read on Monday that says - “move your data to a temporary server by Tuesday or it’s gone”. I come home and work on it right away but I get disconnected while I’m ftp’ing my data to my computer and then I can’t re-connect. When I try it again today - it’s gone. So I try to follow their orders, but they can’t keep up, but instead of extending the deadline (for me to do what really they should be doing themselves for me), they just screw my data. All 3 injurymanagement subsites are gone. So I spend all night tonight trying redo them (I’m about 1/2 done now). Bigfoot is being pissy about re-archiving my blogs, too. Sigh. I’ve been reading up on other hosts - ones that offer own cgi-bin (so I can use MovableType instead), php, mysql databases, etc. for $30, including domain registration (I’m paying $50 for a .ca domain registration with free hosting with no extra services). Hmm… how do you say - SWITCH!
There are just some things you can’t claim on Worker’s Compensation. I don’t know if it’s embarassment or just inappropriate work behaviour that stops one from reporting an injury, but I’m just not reporting this one.
We took our kids out to play on the climber today and a few of us EA’s were playing on the fireman’s pole. Anyway, on my way down, I some how managed to smuck my knee right against the pole and I have quite a goose egg now.
I can see the report now… “I was showing my student how to play on the playground equipment and should receive my own training on it before I show others how to use it.”
Chocolate. It all started when his kids were selling chocolate bars for the school. I think I bought one and then he gave me two throughout the course of the week. Then Halloween came. His kids don’t like O’Henry bars so he ate them and if he had any in the cab when I was in, he would give some to me as well. Anyway, he must but chocolate bars 2 for a dollar now as he has given me about three ‘Bounty’ chocolate bars the last couple of weeks. It’s his new favourite. Also, the kids were selling chocolate covered almonds last week… and I got a free box. So to return the favour, I gave him chocolate at Christmas… I have given him baked cookies… I gave him an O’Henry when I had been off sick for a couple of days and any money I find in the cab I give to him. One day I found $3.00!! I think it’s a fair trade.
