So my birthday is officially over. My final gift arrived in the mail this week and I had my final party today. I had a great Dairy Queen cake at work with Winnie the Pooh on it!! My favourite. I ordered it specifically back in September now everyone who has had their birthday cake up until now is jealous!! I did share though.
The silly train stopped again to visit the variety store today. The train stops fairly regularly there but it always makes me giggle. I guess it’s because trains protray this image of speed and this is the slowest moving train that stops for snacks!!
Well - I took another major step tonight in my venture to establish a project about which I am passionate. It’s all a little hush hush, but more details will follow as developments occur. April 9th is D-day.
I can’t stand Kate, the sister of Marie on the TV show 24. Marie is almost equivalent, but at least she’s a cute blonde, but Kate is so ditzy. She always has these dazed looks, and is always so baffled and befuddled. She gets this head forward, tilted, with a lost look in her eyes expression that gets annoying. I can’t wait till she dies or at least is phased out of the show. Marie was similar. Now Elisha Cuthbert - she’s given stupid subplot storylines, but she can act and look mighty fine in the process.
A poor child in the world was just named Piper Leeta Anne Nickel. Hmmm…. P.L.A.N. are her initials. And I’m sure pumpernickel will be among the first of her nicknames.
I forgot to mention something about my trip over March Break….
Everyone knows my knowledge of where bathrooms are located and if I don’t know where one is I can find one rather quickly. We had planned ahead on our trip to go pee at the border as there has ALWAYS been a bathroom there. As we get close to the toll booth we can’t seem to find the bathrooms. We kept thinking “I’m sure they were right there.” Well, ‘right there’ is now a Toll Office. How can they do that? Don’t they know people have travelled for hours just to use that bathroom? Luckily we were able to find a Wendy’s on the other side of the border but who gets rid of a bathroom????
My worms are happy, I think. Everytime I save up some compost and put it through the blender, I end up with such nicely chopped compost. Today, I mulched up some remanents of some flowers I bought for Jenn (hey, I have to highlight the important issues in my life - and this just makes me look damn good) and the compost smelled “springy”. When I open up a thoroughly composted area and dump the fresh stuff in, I can almost hear them squeal “Oh Dougie - you make any bin of rotting plant matter into a haven of love. Come visit anytime!”
Our church has a newer youth pastor, who actually just graduated from Occupational Therapy and became a pastor. Weird. Anyway, he prayed with his eyes open this morning… how can he concentrate? It wasn’t like he was reading a prayer but he just kept scanning the congregation as he prayed. And yes, I do keep my eyes open in church!
Favourite childhood Spring poem:
Spring has sprung
The grass is riz
I wonder where the birdies is
Oh there’s a birdie in the sky
It just white washed in my eye
Am I so glad that cows don’t fly

HAPPY SPRING!!
The weather was really nice earlier today so we took a walk downtown. It is a great spot to get atmosphere and get some great walking in. I think it is 1 km one way along the main stretch of downtown and we usually do the whole thing which works out to 2km. There always seems to be a big turnover of stores down there but then others which have been there for 50 years. Weird. We sniffed our way through the bakery and Doug bought a new CD with his Christmas gift certificate from Indigo. Not much else new and exciting here… but we are both glad that Spring is FINALLY here!!
I’m so excited about programming with php, using MySQL databases — this really seems like the direction that webdesign is heading… I started with HTML, then dabbled in JavaScript (incl. DHTML), then briefly looked at XML, discovered CSS, and now… baby.
Speaking of which - who does this remind you of? “Oh baby - this is some kind of hockey, tonight!” Hint… he had a special show on Friday mornings on the Team talk radio called “… [his name], Chicks He Likes”. He’s a Canadian sportscasting icon (at this point if you don’t know who I’m talking about you likely won’t know who he when I tell you). He was an integral part of my childhood HNIC Saturday nights. His name is - Bob Cole. And what’s with the famale sportscasters on CBC now? Oh baby. Actually, CBC is the last to go that way - Sportsnet, TSN, Headline Sports all have done it already. Don’t worry, Jenn - you get Legacy Five, I get my sportscasters (female ones, that is).
What is with complete strangers calling me Jenn? Especially after I introduce myself as Jennifer… do they think they can just be buddy buddy or something? I find it rather annoying. To me, Jenn is the same as using a nickname and is to be used by the appropriate people who know me well. Argh. Next time I will just have to shorten their name!!
I think the Christmas store is now 80000 square feet….including the addtion. I was rereading the website and I think that is correct. I forgot to mention one of the main highlights of my trip! I finally have the Rudolph set of figurines!! I was so excited when I saw them in the store. Two different stores had a variety of Rudolph stuff so it took me a few days to decide what I really wanted. I think I am happy with my purchase. I believe there is a picture of me with my new figurines in my Frankenmuth pictures.
Hard to believe I haven’t been on a computer for a week!! I didn’t really miss it but I have been sitting for quite some time catching up!! I had a nice relaxing time and stayed an extra day due to snow on Thursday. The World’s Largest Christmas store expanded by 80000 square feet since last year and I didn’t think that place could get too big but I think it was. We had a set routine of how to walk around that place and it was all messed up this year. It took us a while to get the hang of it (we go every day we are there) but managed to find all of our favourites. It wasn’t till the third day that I found the sale rack I was looking for though!! The weather was very cold this year so having a larger store to walk around wasn’t all bad!
I had such a good time in Frankenmuth - I love that place! Check SillySpot for more information!
Pictures from Jenn’s Trip to Frankenmuth (”Christmas-town”) Notice all the Rudolphs and Silent Night Chapel…
Yay! I get to pick Jenn up today. It’s been 7 days… on my end mostly spent either at work or fiddling away on my latest computer project, on her end - shopping, cuddling (with her Mom), and soaking in the hot tub. To each his/her own. I had such a great day off yesterday - I woke up at 6:40 (I actually like not being able to sleep in - it adds 2-3 hours to my day), actually accomplished things on the computer (rather than just watching time dribble away), went for a hike under a perfectly blue sky, toured a local wheelchair vendor’s show/equipment room, ate at the Merchant McLiam, had a Guinness (thinking the 14th was St. Paddy’s… oops), and got a free beer glass out of it. I watched a pretty crappy movie last night (Replacement Killers), but the night before I saw “Rules of Attraction” - it’s kinda weird (based on a book by Brett Easter Ellis, author of American Psycho), but amazing filmography and a clear unique storyline. Similarly disturbing to American Psycho though, but surprisingly low on swearing and nudity (high on drugs and sex themes). American Psycho the movie sucked (though the book rocked).
Is Norah Jones the next Britney Spears? I think not! Norah is to music as prime rib is to food. Britney is just burgers and fries - tasty, delectible, but simple sinful crap. Norah you can listen to with your eyes shut, visualizing emotionally satisfying thrills - Britney, well, we all know what visual thrills she evokes.
Oops, I guess I forgot to update you - I’ve had a couple of requests. I found Jenn! She hadn’t signed out of the hotel (just a useless customer service person was too lazy to search for and obtain the up to date information). She wasn’t way - unless you call soaking in the hot tub and shopping all day and night “away”. She’s alive. She actually stayed in Frankenmuth for another day because they had “so much snow” (I don’t believe them either - they just didn’t want to come back… cheesy excuse, I know). She should be back to blogging sometime this weekend (maybe even tonight!). Thanks for caring about whether or not I was destined to live a life of hermitude.
