Gnod - The global network

September 30th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Gnod - The global network of dreams Gnod is my experiment in the field of artificial intelligence. Its a self-adapting system, living on this server and ‘talking’ to everyone who comes along. Gnods intention is to learn about the outer world and to learn ‘understanding’ its visitors. This enables gnod to share all it’s wisdom with you in an intuitive and efficient way. You might call it a search-engine to find things you don’t know about.

Busy week… busy weekend… busy

September 29th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Busy week… busy weekend… busy month coming up. I’m not complaining - honestly. I actually like being busy - it makes the days go by faster (not that I want them to pass, but I hate it when they drag), I accomplish more, I learn more, and I’m having fun with all the stuff I’m doing. Work @ napanee is keeping me on my toes, and then I started working @ KGH this weekend (~ 4 hours per day) in the ICU. It was alot of fun. October is going to be a bit hell-ish — I’ve got 10 days of presentations to do - each day has 2 sessions, each session is 3-4 hours, and it’s for nurses. My course last weekend was great - it gave me lots of ideas which I’m working on now in the spare bits of time I have left over. I worked at Jamie’s house building a rock garden - and they’ve hired me to do 1-2 inuksuks (plus, I think I can make another one for my front garden). I’m very sore from our first night of hockey on Friday, but it was a blast. I’m so happy that I finally am able to play hockey. Well, gotta finish up work and go home. Have a great weekend!

*sigh* I am a little

*sigh* I am a little jealous of Doug. He went to Toronto for a course and got to spend the night at MY parents. He wasn’t planning on it but decided he didn’t want to drive back in rush hour so spent the night there instead. They just got back from their trip and it would have been nice to see them. C’est la vie. It’s only two and a half weeks till Thanksgiving and then I will get to see them!! However, they did send my latest Bath and Body Works shipment back with Doug!! Woohoo!

The dinner was spectacular… it

September 22nd, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

The dinner was spectacular… it started off kind of weird and perhaps a bit nauseating. There were tables of 8 and there were 10 in our group and since we were the last ones there we had to sit at another table. So as we were sitting in the harbour just bouncing Doug and I both started wondering if we would be able to eat any of the food and keep it down. Once we got going we were fine. Since it was freezing inside and no one was talking to us, we went outside to explore the deck. It was fantastic!! I guess we ended up on the St. Lawrence river and saw all of the amazing places on the islands as well as just on the waterfront. We were up on the main deck by ourselves most of the time which was nice since it was small deck. The food was pretty good and the water was so calm. We were expecting rain and were happy that it turned out to be a perfect evening!!

We’re off on a dinner

September 20th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

We’re off on a dinner cruise tonight with people from Doug’s work. It is a glass enclosed dome type boat I think. Should be interesting. We have been on a few other cruises but never a dinner one nor have we gone at night… should be cool!

Our friend Jen took some

September 18th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Our friend Jen took some great pictures of us last week. I had asked her at the beginning of the year that if we were over sometime could she just take some shots as we hardly have any pictures of the two of us. So she had some black and white film left over in her camera and paid us a visit. We felt quite silly posing and smiling, etc but the pictures are amazing. Too bad we don’t have a scanner to put them up on here for you but when you come to visit we will be sure to show them off!!

Oh, what frustration. I sent my application for transfer credits to Ryerson for March 1, 2002. They finally got around to assessing them in September. When I received it in the mail this week, they hadn’t even looked at it because they said they hadn’t received my transcripts from Queen’s. That would be okay but my transfer credits weren’t coming from Queen’s, they were from OBC!!!!! I have tried to call but they are not answering the phone because they have 14000 transfer credits to work on…. so do I have to wait another six months??? And how do I find out if my transcripts are actually there?

Our neighbours house sold on

Our neighbours house sold on the weekend - we’re eagerly anticipating who our new neighbours might be.

Some of you may know

September 14th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Some of you may know about a few of my phobias. One is the way others drive while I am in the car, another is riding in a cab. (which also ties into phobia one). As luck would have it, at work now, I have to ride in a cab TWICE a day to accompany my student. On Friday, the driver got a call while I was in the cab so made a mad dash to drop me off almost knocking a few cars off the road. Needless to say, my phobia of cabs has not decreased. Well, my phobia of cab drivers is sort of gone but it just seems weird to have a perfect stranger driving you around… and I always have to make small talk.

Our church downtown is building…

September 9th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Our church downtown is building… in the backyard of Doug’s old university house. The digging came to a quick halt this week when they discovered skeletons. So an archeologist has come in and there will be a notice of “bodies found” in the paper… hoping that people will claim them? It must be an old church graveyard as the church is over a hundred years old. Anyway, they are waiting to see how many bodies there are and then they will have to find them a new home…. no wonder Doug had strange dreams while living there. Who knows what is under the house????

Interesting developments… our neighbours that we don’t really get along with… put their house up for sale today. We must REALLY look bad in the neighbourhood. We have only been here two years and we are on our third neighbour on the attached part of our semi and then the neighbours on the other side are moving!! We have had amazing luck with our neighbours thus far, hopefully our luck hasn’t run out.

Doug and I often contemplate

September 8th, 2002 -- Posted in Silliness | No Comments »

Doug and I often contemplate what we want to be when we grow up. We both read a lot about research and different things happening in our own fields as well as other areas. There seems to be so much out there that why would you want to spend all of your time doing one thing? My new fascination is with adaptive technology. There are so many amazing tools and programs that people with disabilities can use but don’t have access to. I just want to tell everybody about the exciting things that are out there.

The swimming area Doug mentioned

September 8th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

The swimming area Doug mentioned below, was great. I think the bottom of the lake was all limestone… slippery limestone. We were just sliding the whole time. I had a small wipe out on the way in and hurt my toe but the rest of the swim was great. There was no seaweed or slimy things floating and they sky was perfectly clear!

We went for a bike

September 8th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

We went for a bike ride / country drive yesterday and found a Top5 swimming spot. It had phenomenally clear water, smooth flat rocks, privacy (on a dead end road, down ~ 10 feet from the road), with wonderful sunning areas. We’re always looking for wonderful spots - currently our list includes Sandbanks, a spot just west of Amherstview, Lemoine Point, and Port Elgin (the only one on Lake Huron). I also enjoy the swimming at Forest Cliff Camp and a spot in Amherstview, and across from City (Pervert) Park near KGH/Queen’s. This new spot found yesterday is probably #1 (maybe #2), though.

The first week of school

September 7th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

The first week of school is over. There were two fire alarm pulls, two clothes in the toilet incidents, one broken water main, and one tired EA!! These early mornings have been a killer this week. They got a bit better especially when I got home by three!! It definitely made it all worth while.

I think I was the last person on earth still watching Felicity…. well, it finally ended tonight and to my disappointment, she ended up with Ben… and Noel married Zoe. *sigh*. How come show finales are never what you want them to be….?

I finished reading another great

September 3rd, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

I finished reading another great book - High Fidelity. Big on character development and quality literature, a little weak (but unnoticeable) on plot. Now I’m reading Just for Fun - the story of Linus Torvalds (the creator of Linux). What a fascinating story - makes me want to install Linux (which I have a copy of) on our older computer. I’m not sure what Jenn would think if I screwed it all up. We had a wonderful weekend - helped my sister move, had dinner with Jenn’s parents, went to Sandbanks, visited a patient who invited me for a tour of his house that was built in 1812 which he restored, and checked out the Queen’s frosh moving in. I signed a couple of books out from the library and discovered some new priviledges associated with faculty status - I get books for the whole term (till January 15). I bought a new CD by Dar Williams - she’s incredible stuff. Thanks Karen for revealing Dar to me!

The first day back to

September 3rd, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

The first day back to school is over!! It wasn’t too bad. My student was missing in action for the first hour but we managed to find her … the bus went to the wrong place!! I am working in a great classroom and hey, leaving at 2:30 was really nice! My day also started out with a new pen from the school and a chocolate gift basket from my parents!! I have a chocolate lady who happens to work at the school and I guess my parents put in a surprise order for me. Yummm!! I think I have to give Doug some of my treats for being so amazing during the past few weeks and dealing with all my ummm…. life problems and stresses.

Doug reminded me that I

September 1st, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Doug reminded me that I never updated the website about my job situation. There were lots of interesting jobs left to choose from when it was my turn to pick. There was a great speech assistant job but it was lots of driving into the boonies…. I ended up taking a job working with junior students at a school I worked at before. The great part about the job is that it is on high school hours and I will be done earlier in the day. Woohoo!! I’m still a little bitter about not being able to go back to my old school but am happy that I know the staff and students at the school I am at this fall.
