Finally, something good happened when I took my car in. When I got the bill, my Dad thought it looked a little high and questioned it. It turns out they did some work without calling us so it ended up that we didn’t have to pay for the extra work! Woohoo!!

Just when I thought World Youth Day was over, I run into FIVE buses at The Big Apple. I was meeting my Dad there so my brother could catch a ride home. We were going to have lunch there but since it was so crowded we grabbed a piece of pie and that was about it.

It appears that I need to apologize for my test. I have been told that I made it a little too hard!! It was hard to come up with questions and then I just didn’t know how easy to make it. Anyway, watch out for our upcoming Jenn and Doug quiz!!

So I have started a new career… in babysitting. It all started when I offered to look after one of the students who has autism. I knew I would miss her over the summer and just wanted to hang out with her. Then the Mom asked if I would babysit her one night and when I called to confirm, she asked if I would watch all three of her kids. Having met them before I said sure. The night went well and we all lived. It was the Mom’s first time using a babysitter in her children’s eight years. Lucky her to have me as the first one! Yikes!! Anyway, she called me this week asking if I was interested in more jobs with her friends kids… I said NO! But it’s nice to know I”m wanted.

Doug and I had a nice relaxing weekend after his week of long shifts. We went to the driving range on Saturday, which I am definitely feeling! On Sunday we went to Sandbanks which was an adventure in itself. Along highway 33 is the Glenora ferry. We have gone on the ferry many times but have never seen a transport truck on it. If that wasn’t interesting enough, it turned out to be a truck transporting pigs!! I finally have an understanding of why people don’t want pig farms to move into their area! Our car ended up right beside the pigs and we could only sit there for a few seconds before we realized that we had to move to a different part of the ferry. Although we moved from the smell, our car didn’t and seemed to carry the odor most of the day!! When managed to get to Sandbanks we thought it was more crowded than usual. It turns out the World Youth Day had ascended onto the beach and we were one of the few English speaking people there!! The beach was great though and the water was beautiful!!

Man and Wife: A man

July 18th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Man and Wife: A man left from work one Friday afternoon. But instead of going home, he stayed out the entire weekend hunting with the boys and spending his entire paycheck. When he finally appeared at home, Sunday night, he was confronted by his very angry wife and was barraged for nearly two hours with a tirade of his actions. Finally his wife stopped the nagging and simply said to him. “How would you like it if you didn’t see me for two or three days?” To which he replied: “That would be fine with me.” Monday went by and he didn’t see his wife. Tuesday and Wednesday came and went with the same results. Finally on Thursday, the swelling went down just enough where he could see her a little out of the corner of his left eye.

The job placement list came

July 18th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

The job placement list came out for the fall and it looks like I will be going to a different school. Some smart person switched the kids all up which leaves me without a job. To make it “fair”, they didn’t put my name beside a job and when you are at the bottom, you are pretty sure your job won’t be there when it gets to be your turn. C’est la vie. I haven’t been at any school more than two years and my two years are up so I guess it’s time to move on. My goal is to get to the next closest school. My last two schools have been three kilometres from my house and there is one school even closer so we’ll see.

I have a weird fascination

July 15th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

I have a weird fascination with greetings cards…. especially cards on sale. Whenever I find a good sale (ie. cards for 25 cents) I go nuts. I rarely ever buy cards at full price. Anyway, every summer, the Card Merchant downtown has a grab bag sale. You get three cards for 50 cents … but since it is a grab bag, you never know what you’re going to get. I didn’t fair too well last summer but this summer that cards are great. I only got two cards that I really can’t use (grandparents and daughter-in-law). Actually, I got a few cards that I have been trying to buy but can’t find anyone selling them anymore!! Now, the hard part is holding me back from buying more…. at 50 cents who can go wrong. Is spending $10 on cards really that bad? I mean, you spend $4 for one card… Hmmm…. we’ll have to wait and see what tomorrow holds…

SatireWire… Canada Sends Smokescreen Over

July 13th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

SatireWire… Canada Sends Smokescreen Over U.S. Before Canadian Invasion Embarrassed Canadian generals today conceded an overzealous officer defied orders and started fires in Quebec to shroud the eastern seaboard in smoke before Canada had finished preparing its full-scale invasion of the United States.

Deputy Prime Minister John Manley explained that the Canadian military was waiting for approval. “Whenever we engage in a military operation, and certainly one of this magnitude, we look to our U.S. allies for guidance,” said Manley. “But… but we were going to invade the U.S.,” said Toronto MP Tony Ianno. “Oh, ah,” said Manley.

With the botched invasion now public, Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien scrambled to diffuse anger in Washington. Fortunately, his explanation to President Bush has so far succeeded in deflecting American ire. “He told me the smoke wasn’t from Quebec,” said Bush. “He said it was from al Quebec. Damn, those guys are everywhere.”

Despite the lack of surprise, many Canadians have urged the military to push on, arguing that if they can’t take the U.S. by force, they can at least sneak into Detroit and take back the Stanley Cup. Gen. Henault, however, urged restraint, noting that Canada has only 70,000 people in its armed forces, while the U.S. has 2 million. That revelation raised eyebrows among several MPs.

“So, if we are short by about 1.9 million soldiers, how, exactly, were we going to pull this invasion off?” asked Ontario MP John Godfrey. “Were we just going to use smoke?” “And mirrors,” said Henault. “Lots and lots of mirrors.” “Well, like I said, the plan wasn’t finished,” he added.

Meanwhile, Stan Keyes, MP for Hamilton West, suggested Canadians use the ash cover to hide from Washington until relations return to normal. Godrey, however, argued such an effort was unnecessary. “We’re in Canada,” he said. “Most Americans can’t find us now.”

Okay, I take it back!!

July 11th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

Okay, I take it back!! The garbage strike really is beginning to suck. We held our breath part of the way this morning because we couldn’t take the stench. The garbage is piling up in little sections on the street but there still aren’t the mass piles I saw on the news. The funny thing is, that parts that stink the most don’t really have any garbage… could it be sewers or something? Anyway, it is getting pretty gross.

Bye-bye 28.8 modem, hello 56K.

Bye-bye 28.8 modem, hello 56K. It’s amazing how much of a difference it makes. Part of it could be P3 450 vs. P133. Or maybe 196 Mb RAM vs. 24 Mb. Then again, 14 Gb vs. 1.2 Gb could contribute. Ah, this is great. I’ve got the resolution max’d so I have to squint to read it but this whole post fits on one line! (well… almost).

The garbage strike in Toronto

July 9th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

The garbage strike in Toronto doesn’t seem to be affecting me too much. It always looks worse in the papers and on the news than in the areas I have been. I don’t see large piles of garbage anywhere!! My friend says that the areas that smell, usually do.

I haven’t blogged for over

July 7th, 2002 -- Posted in Misc | No Comments »

I haven’t blogged for over two weeks! This is what summer does to me. Here’s a review:
1. Bachelorhood Part VI is coming along well - strawberry sandwiches for supper, working out in the yard, cycling, going to bed late and waking up late, working extra hours at work, listening to CBC, and minimal laundry.
2. I built an Inukshuk - basically an inukshuk is a monument of rocks in the shape of a small (or large) person to act as a guide. The one I built in our backyard is ~ 2.5 feet tall. It was alot of fun to build - though took at least 2 hours. I’ve decided that if anyone (within 50 km of Kingston) wants me to create one for them, I’ll do it for $50 for one up to 3 feet tall, $100 for 3-4 feet tall, and I don’t do more than 4 feet tall. Do a search on Google for images of them, and then tell me what you want yours to look like (or I can improvise).
3. We’re getting a new off-lease computer tomorrow - P3 450, 195 Mb RAM, 14 Gb HD, CDRW, and … our first 56K modem! I can’t believe we’ve lasted this long on 28.8K. Oh well, it teaches patience and builds character (and wastes time).
That’s about all for now… thanks for reading our website.

Doug and I spent the weekend at my parents and he was looking forward to going strawberry picking as he hadn’t had time to go at home. We went to the first place at 11 am on Sunday and they had stopped the picking for the day… they wanted to save some for the next day?? So, we went on to place number two and they actually charged you to go and pick berries… Needless to say, we didn’t go berry picking. I just heard from him… he found a great place on the way home and I’m sure he will be having strawberry sandwiches for most of the week.
